connected to rod number 3? you mean big end bearing not thrust bearings. the thrust bearings sit either side of number 3 mains journal but doesnt come incontact with any conrod. scoring is mainly from contamination (metal, dirt, insects what ever) chips taken out can be from over heating as the metal softens up as it heats up and then a small amount of contamination just rips a chunk out....

also if you do the ARP main studs make sure you test fit the sumps without sealant before you bolt them on. one of the studs has to be shortened about 2-3mm or it may crack your alloy sump when fitting.

If you're planning on a high hp, boost above 25psi I'd steer clear of the Cometic gasket. I've seen them leak waaaaay too many times on SR20DET's, take my word for it!

movie boy: the tomei head gaskets are cheaper than $500 and i sell cometic head gasket for $155 so not sure where you are getting your prices from. coseworth is another good head gasket and only around $260 and virtually the same as a tomei one, ill take some pics of each of them as i generally have them all in stock, but there all multi layer steel. pj's quick bits: got any more info about ...

SR NRG, it has all been on cars making running 30psi or just over (380-420kW), they have not blown, just leaked. I've read all about the internet rumours surrounding problems ARP studs yet know the majority of people with fast SR's have run them and not had a problem. I too know of plenty of guys running Cometic gaskets making the power you're referring to without a hitch. The ...
