Thread: Those who have had a colposcopy

Started 1 month, 1 week ago by afdice720
I had a colposcopy 5 days ago. My ob/gyn did a colposcopy with a biopsy of abnormal tissue, and put this medicine on my cervix afterwards. I have been having severe cramping for 2 days now and am passing clots of what I think is this medicine, about the size of a gumball. These clots are like black and hard. Has anyone else experienced this? I also just read on a website that intercourse should ...

Im sorry you are having such a rough go of things. I too had a colposcopy with biopsy and didnt have any problems. I dont know what the medication was that he put on your cervix...my OBGYN never did that. Im not sure. The spotting is cervical irritation....no sex. Remember essentially he took a chunk out of your cervix! Hope you start feeling better, and if you are still getting that black ...

I had a colposcopy about 4 years ago. I did have bleeding after, just like passing a few clots, nothing severe. The doctor told me it was normal but if it got worse to go into the ER.

Hello! I have had two colposcopies and both times I was warned that I might have some discharge that looked like what the doctor described as "coffee grounds".  He said it would be black.  Now, I didn't ever get any of it so I cannot tell you exactly what it looked like but I'm pretty sure that's probably what you're having.   If there is any questoin, call your doctor or go to the ER.

Oh and I founnd this> > > > > What to expect after colposcopy and biopsy Spotting/bleeding – you may have a little bit of spotting or a dark discharge for a day or two after biopsy. You may want to use a sanitary towel to protect your underwear but don’t use tampons for about a week until your cervix heals. If the bleeding doesn’t stop within a couple of days or if you are concerned, ...

I am working in a gyn clinic right now and we advise patients that there should be nothing put into the vagina (sex, tampons, douching) for 1-2 weeks afterward, in order to decrease risk for infection and allow adequate healing. That's just what we tell them, but other offices may be different....

THe black stuff is totally normal.  I get a biopsy about every 6 months for the last oh,3-4 years. My cramping usually lasted about a week, usually less but I have a everly high pain tolerance.  I think it depends on how big a sample they took really.

Yes, the cramping and heavy bleeding is completely normal. I bleed for about a week with the first few days being the heaviest, including blood clots.  This may be TMI, but my DH and I were suppose to wait 2 weeks before we had sex. We had sex at about a week and a half. After sex I had very heavy bleeding for about three/four days. I am not sure if that was caused by having sex or maybe we ...
