Thread: This is the plan (watercooling) will it work?

Started 1 month, 2 weeks ago by engstrom0304
My Plan is to have: Drive Bay Res - D5 Vario Pump - 5870 - Triple Rad - i7 - Single 140mm Rad What do you think? My other plan was to have a Primochill Typhoon 3 and have effectively 2 loops but I am unsure on the quality so I want to be safe and do somthing else.

Yeah, that would work fine. The loop order doesn't matter, as long as pump comes after reservoir. Try to minimise tubing length but otherwise just make sure they're all connected to the loop somewhere. The typhoon 3 is getting a lot of love from people. I'm not sure I trust it either though, concerned about it starving one of the loops of water. I think single fan radiators are underused....

so what shall I do people. They are my 2 options. If I get 2 loops with the Typhoon 3 then I can only afford a single 120 rather than 140mm.

Ditch the single rad IMO. I'm cooling my overclocked q9650 and my 5850 with a 240 rad.

The single rad will give exra cooling power if I want to go crossfire in the future with a 5870 x2.

Depends if you're after adequate cooling and low price or brilliant cooling and more price.

engstrom0304 replied 1 month, 2 weeks ago
hmm that is the question. Overall it comes to £372 This is the question. Would I benefit more from a rad in between cpu and gpu or from getting the better Watercool HK not the LC version? Am I right in thinking that putting a radiator in between the cpu and gpu in the loop will take away the problem of the gpu load increasing the cpu load.

JonJ678 replied 1 month, 2 weeks ago
No. Loop order does not matter. The additional radiator will help, but it makes no difference where in the loop it is. CPU temperatures are likely to be better with the additional radiator rather than with the better block. If however you want to buy in stages, get the better block now and the extra radiator later as otherwise when you upgrade the cpu block you have to throw the old one out....

I almost never buy new watercooling parts now. People like Clone and a few others update their systems so often that you can buy almost new stuff at half price weeks after it's launched. As long as you know what you want, MM is a great place to shop for WC parts.

I'm banned from the MM!! I apparently spammed it! I think its too strict ocuk! (with all due respect ) Please OCUK!!! I BEG YOU !!! I REPENT!

Currently 60 degrees load with two 120 and one 240. They're not very sensibly set up at present, temperatures will improve considerably next time I strip the loop down.

What sort of cpu temps do you get with three rads?
