Thread: This Should Have Been Made into a 12 Part HBO miniseries!!!

A mini-series could do more than just tell the story...which, let's face it, is all the movie does. Watchmen, the book, is more about its underlying themes than it is about the plot. The movie is all about the plot. Note that in the book, Dr. Manhattan's soliloquy on Mars is, more than anything else, a breakdown of the so-called space/time continuum and a philosophical musing on the question ...
Well said, james oblivion. The fact is that you could have made the movie 6 hours and it would not have been able to explore the rich symbolism and major philosophical quandries explored in the graphic novel. The typical movie structure doesn't allow for it.
Since the series was 12 parts anyways, a 12 part miniseries would have been a perfect format that would have allowed for more with less....

Not really just because of budget considerations. A TV miniseries could never afford the elaborate special effects needed to do justice for a live-action Watchmen film/TV program.
I admit that the movie format resulted in cuts to the ...
I'm not worried about the special effects more than I'm worried about the Watchmen "getting done just right."

Well, getting Watchmen done just right includes having all of the Doctor Manhattan scenes (digital character, crystal structure on Mars). And that is not going to happen these days on a TV program budget.
BB ;-)
it's just in my humble opinion - imho -
Sorry my other post was so snarky and mean spirited. My original point still stands, though. This book/movie was really, truly done to death. May they never EVER remake this in any capacity.
MY CAPS LOCK IS STUCK IN THE DOWN POSITION. PLEASE BE UNDERSTANDING.

If you say so.

I agree with galute here. Who cares if the special effects budget is less? Getting caught up in the asethetics of how realistic Dr. Manhattan looks is a really superficial way to adapt a serious peice of fiction like the Watchmen. To me, a lesser budget would mean that actual acting and character develoopment would replace the overdone action sequences we saw in the Snyder version.
The ...
A TV miniseries could never afford the elaborate special effects needed to do justice for a live-action Watchmen film/TV program. I'm not sure how that's true at all...HBO spent an estimated $125 million on Band of Brothers 8 years ago. Snyder's film clocked in at $130 million. And that budget includes all 4 hours' worth of this soon-to-be-released extended cut.
What's to say HBO, with ...
Did you even watch the movie? Sadly enough, I watched the movie twice. Once in the movies and then again on DVD to reassess why it originally disappointed me so very much. But I think the more pertinent question is if YOU carefully read the graphic novel because there are several key discrepancies between the movie's end and the 12th chapter of the Watchmen which you downplay or ignore here... Besides the removal of giant random space...
From thatguy; "the watchmen animated comic isnt that good- one voice doing ALL the parts- even the women? How lazy do you have to be to not be able to read a comic?!?!?" My guess is that it came down to money. The producers of the Watchmen Motion Comic didn't have the funds to hire voice actors for all the different parts. So they just paid one person to do it all. Snyder didn’t make the movie ending better by removing this point, but instead made Ozymandias’ master plot less of an acerbic critique of our contemporary society and culture by going the “Dr. Manhattan’s Revenge” route. Besides, the cool symbolism of the Squid resembling one great giant vagina was done with the intent of making your typical Freudian psychoanalyst blush. :-) Alright, maybe I...
I believe Snyder proved you could very well make a very faithful adaptation of Watchmen as a three and a half hour film. Mini series would be wholly unecessary. Who Watches the Persians?
