No more restarting upon driver installation Adding hard drives with permissions from previous installations to not have to have so many security precautions via password The network "diagnosis" to actually diagnose rather than restart the network adapter. (You can do this yourself.) Same as above, though, it'd just do it's job without saying what it's doing and just do it's job. Disable...

Quote - (omnicoder @ Aug 8 2009, 21:15) 99% of what you want is technically impossible or would be very unsecure. Also, BSODs help you. They end your session before stuff gets all corrupted. If you want "drivers and codecs like linux" then go use Linux. Drivers need to restart the computer. This isn't specific to Windows for a reason. Continue previous sessions would be a nice one, ...

@HeLGeN-X Quote - Almost every other operating system does not need a restart for driver installation, why does Windows still need it after 7 versions? Probably it depends of the driver. I remind restarting linux, after trying different driver, so what you are saying is not true. It might not restart automatically, but you still have to restart to make the driver work properly. I'm...
Well, it's to late now for Win7, but for Win8 I'd like to see them go to a micro kernel OS (like the *nix) and have the desktop be separate, the removal of Trident, etc.
Quote - No more restarting upon driver installation Those are extremely rare now, but when you have to, you have to. No big deal. Besides, dealing with drivers are incredibly rare anyway. More than likely you're only going to deal with drivers in the first hour you work with windows, then you're set, until you buy a new hardware, which then only takes 15 to half an hour of your ...
I have a few points and hope they get implemented at least in the next version (which will be a major release) 1)I wish Windows focused on reducing the number of silly and unnecessary reboots. I know that it has been considerably less compared to XP but may be they can focus on the issue a bit more. 2)A bit less cluttered and more organized Control Panel. The view by Small icons is lame ...
Quote - (M_Lyons10 @ Aug 10 2009, 23:54) Well, there are some other applications that can do this that are a good deal more feature rich. So I don't know how they did that, but they allow features like dragging applications in new desktops, etc. Last I looked they were rather costly though. So, not sure what's involved, but I keep hoping that perhaps Sysinternals will also find work arounds to these issues. Those...
Quote - (tuckeratlarge @ Aug 28 2009, 15:02) I would have like to see run time libraries for the common languages, C++, Visual Basic, .net, Java, PHP, etc . included with the install. Then I would like to see rid of the registry and just go back to good old .ini files or something like. Then have all the installation of an app in it's own folder, instead of spread scatter-gun fashion all over the shop. The C:/windows...
Quote - (hdood @ Aug 11 2009, 23:27) Could you explain exactly what "legacy crap" you want removed, and can you please be specific ? For eg: Compatibility Mode for Windows 95,98,2000 ? If XP mode is improved in later versions, i dont think all this code would be necessary
Quote - (HawkMan @ Aug 9 2009, 04:34) both vista and 7 can do this natively, right click the svchost you're interested in and select show services. Thanks for that! I never noticed.
Quote - (hdood @ Aug 11 2009, 06:14) Those other programs don't actually use multiple desktops, they just have the one and cleverly manipulate it to give the impression that there are more. They do this by doing things like hiding the Windows and task bar buttons that belong to another "desktop" than what is active. This is a rather large hack, and none of them really seem to work quite right. Ah. Very...

Quote - (-KJ @ Aug 27 2009, 11:19) I really hope the next version Microsoft allows some customizability... even the same amount as Windows XP would be great. It seems they are stripping more control away from us with each OS since then. I don't find Windows 7 to be any more/less customizable than Windows XP.
Quote - (HawkMan @ Aug 16 2009, 12:28) Supporting vectors or not has nothing to do with 120hz displays and touch screens, both of which windows has supported since forever. Obviously. I was making a point about how fast displays are evolving, not suggesting that Win7 doesn't support 120Hz displays. Quote - (HawkMan @ Aug 16 2009, 12:28) The only place vectors would give an advantage is in high dpi...
