Once again that time of year has come around when anyone who has decided to pay a large amount money to become a Divemaster or Instructor for little financial return is expected to cough up more money to self proclaimed bodies just to maintain their qualification! I've worked as a Divemaster for a LDS for three years and am more experienced now than when I started ...

You should check out AUSI. http://www.ausi.com.au/ works out so much cheaper for certifications and membership than SDI, SSI or PADI. After all its the instructor that makes the course not the agency. Cheers Chriso edit; added link

Steve Sinclair and AUSI .... Christ that's a blast from the past. They went tits up years ago, no one certify's via them do they ???? It might be all down to the trainer/instructor but I would look long and hard at anyone with a dodgy cert card from a mob like AUSI specially given I believe they no longer exist ??? regards Baz

Not that I would show a DM card if booking onto an unknown boat, I would show them a card which says I am certified to do the dive, nothing more. Last thing I want is to have to look after some ...

Insurance is a bit cheaper due to competition in the market I renew my PADI (but don't get the insurance) just to save on hassle and keep in the loop. My instructor renewal for SSI is about $200 and I don't need to get my own insurance as I'm covered by the shop.
