Thread: The evolution of the 4KRAWLER

Started 3 months, 2 weeks ago by RCKSQRL
Well I never REALLY did a build up, just kind of did things here and there so here is the evolution of the 4KRAWLER. Started out as a young lad with an affliction for vehicles..... wait, I'm getting distracted..... Bought the Runner in 2006, was lifted, 35's 5.29's, detroits, x-over steering, winch and a little body damage. Had some parts left over from a previous project that ...

Then after hanging with the Krew, figured out that it wasn't going to work in its state so, out went the lift blocks, removed a few leaves from the front springs, added a dropped front spring hanger and for a month had some swivel blocks in the rear......that was a mistake so they were removed quickly....talk about death wish! Upgraded to 37's around this time as well. Built a 3x4 square tube ...

So it stayed for awhile.... then finally finished enclosing the rear end with a functional tailgate, drop down tire carrier, redid the front bumper, and I was fairly happy! (can't forget the ubercool mudflaps either!) So what if the doors will never fit on again.......

THEN decided that I wanted a more unique vehicle, (yeah right whatever) and installed some round headlights. and cut off the sliders as they were beat to sh*t. Finished the front bumper, added fender bars and tied them into the new sliders!

and most recently................ to help with cooling and the cool factor a functional scoop was added! Figured this will help with cooling the engine bay down and was cheaper then the air vents available commercially.

Whats next? Well I am working on motor ideas..... either rebuild the 22re or will upgrade to a 4.3 and 700R4. Time will tell on that one as its all cubic dollars and I plumb ran out! Well, thats about it for the 4Krawler so far. current specs as I recall- 1985 4KRAWLER -22re, stock (4 squirrels inside) -w56 transmission -dual transfer cases with 4.7 gears in rear case, Skys t...

It looks good Star. The Maggot was never as stylish as this. I need to get out on the trail with you guys some time and get some good pictures of it for you.

RCKSQRL replied 3 months, 2 weeks ago
Thanks Eric, would love to see you out there! And yes the Maggot was rather bland in comparison!

Oh yeah... forgot until I just tripped over it... install the e-locker in the front (thanks Wood) at some point in time...perhaps find another for the rear. (hint, hint if you all find one somewhere for a good price........)

Well, I am going to admit my ignorance here. Until I read this thread I always thought your rig was a Tracker. By looking in your avatar that is what it looked like to me. Add to that your name Rock Squirrel and that is what I came up with. Sorry about that. I really enjoyed reading your build up thread. LT.

I'd like to come up and check it out / help if I can also. I bought GlenC's runner w/blown motor & have since picked up straight axle, 2nd top Shift Tcase, & a 89 Blazer w/4.3 & 700r4. I.m interested in this adapter Todd is making for you. He might just be going into buisness on them if it works out. Of course, once he builds the 1st one for what he qouted you he might just realize why name brands cost so much...
