Thread: The bottom line I don't get

Started 2 months, 3 weeks ago by a-n-i-l-a-n-d-s
If Frank hadn't went back in time to lure Donnie away from the house, Donnie would have died...which is the point that the movie leads too. I mean, I know that there would be no movie if Frank hadn't brought him away to the golf course...but why did he do it when Donnie could've just been crushed to begin with?

Frank chose to guide Donnie to save the Universe. Why would he let him die?

a-n-i-l-a-n-d-s replied 2 months, 1 week ago
But what did Donnie REALLY do to save the universe? He sacrificed himself...but he was saved from having been killed in the first place.

He created the "reason" why the jet engine appeared in the normal universe. The engine first appears for no apparent reason, and a universe based on logic will seize to exist if something so illogical happens. So to correct itself, it creates a parallel universe where Donnie has been assigned to correct this flaw, and is given supernatural powers to do so. So at the end, when he's finally ...

seems to me the engine appeared for no apparent reason on its own so I see no reason why some poor kid sleeping in his bed needs to fix the universe.

Universe 1: Donnie goes to bed. Jet engine falls through ceiling and kills Donnie. No one knows why. It has no logic explanation, thus creating a paradox. A universe governed by logic cannot exist if a paradox is created. The universe therefore creates a parallel universe, a Tangent Universe, to attempt to correct this "mistake". The tangent universe only exists for a specific amount of time....

Plus, Donnie sent the engine back through time. There had to be a cause for the engine to appear 28 days early. He did that. (Near the end he laughs and says "I am going home", then time rewinds). When I was a very small boy, the very small boys talked to me

But still in present universe no one know where did engine came from...so isnt that a paradox? or explanation that it came from future is not a paradox?

thepleasantuncle replied 1 month ago
No one in present universe will ever know where the jet engine came from, but that doesn't mean it's a paradox. Remember, all that matters is that in the internal logic of the universe, it's now been corrected. It's like if you have a huge math equation laid out on a blackboard, and one of the numbers is changed. Suddenly, the entire math equation doesn't add up. Now replace the math ...

Yeah thepleasantuncle is genius, do you think you could help me out? Considering the Op is talking about Frank. That's what my question is about. I always thought Frank was just a rabbit from the future? But near the end of the movie he actually turns out to be a real person? Some kid obsessed with the features of the rabbit. Remember when Donnie sees "Frank" in the theater talking about a ...

There are some conflicting views on exactly who Frank is. Mainly, there are two trails of thought: 1. (which is expressed in the FAQ on this message board) "creepy" Frank which appears throughout the movie is a remnant from a previous Parallel Universe where Donnie failed to send the Artifact (the jet engine) through the wormhole. There are several hints given that this has happened more than once, mainly that Frank says...
