This is happening for me as well on an HP dv5 AMD CPU upgraded from Vista to Win 7 64.   I have not been able to find a system event message... but then again I haven't waited 2 hours... just 30 mins.

I am having the same issue (stuck at gathering information) with version 4.2.8.3 for Windows 7 64 bit.  I think it was SP44409.exe for the newest version, it just won't seem to do anything but hang after it starts.  Anyone have this working on Win 7 64 bit?

pcah9 replied 1 month, 2 weeks ago
The answer is in my post, just go to the link provided and download and run it,uninstall the other one first.

Well, I did.  I uninstalled the new one, rebooted, installed the one in your link and it was exactly the same - just hung at gathering information.  I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit edition installed.  It seems to get a little further if I disable the HP Check services in the process list - at least it tries to run then.

Did you upgrade or clean install windows,i clean installed 64 bit professional and it works perfectly on my machine.Try uninstalling it,look also for any related health check progs in your c drive,if you upgraded not clean installed there might be a conflict still there.

I did an upgrade.  I did uninstall all the other HP health chack programs though - verified that through running services.  Still hangs.  Guess I'm stuck waiting for another update from HP.

You should not install Both Health check and HP Support Assistant on the same machine. Please go in add remove program and uninstall "HP Active Support library" Then uninstall  "HP Help and support" Then download the HP Support Assistant 4.2.8.3 from : ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp46001-46500/sp46005 .exe And install it This should solve you issue
