Thread: The People Lost, the MPO Won

Started 2 months ago by SAAggiemom
The folks on Bandara will be happy, the folks on 281 are NOT! The MPO in their shinning moment of glory voted to keep the plan in place to toll 281. It was a great night for exercising free speech . . . but a sad night for the people that matter. Mr. Wentworth and Mr. Wolfe might need to start looking at career changing options when their terms are up. Congrats to the nice people that travel ...

I'll predict that none of the elected officials on the MPO lose their next elections as a result of this vote. Even though I've voted against incumbents over the issue, those incumbents have rolled to decisive victories. I have yet to see any elected officials in this county held accountable for their position on toll roads. It's not a hot-button issue with most voters, even though a few ...

You're probably right Bowie, most people don't care enough to get out and vote much less pay enough attention to current events to know or care what is going on. They will be the same ones that will be all upset that they are being charged now to use a roadway that used to be free. I think a wanted poster campaign is in order even if just for the fun of it. We can make a poster with the names ...

We'll see. FYI - Several points of contention came up that were finally put to rest. (in my mind) Both sides, the MPO and Terri Hall, concurred: Had the toll plan been lifted, the stimulus funding would NOT have been lost as had been reported in the Express news and by other pro-toll sources. The plan is for a total of 20 lanes (Marble Falls must be a hot destination) There will be NO "free...

Why are folks so opposed to tolls in this city? A lot of folks use this analogy when they want something built in SA: ...but other big cities have one...why can't we, why are we behind? Now, we can use the same logic with toll roads....but most other big cities have them...so can we. After all, there will be a choice to use them or not. Don't want to pay the pittance of a toll? Don't ...

can I just add though that the behavior of many of the folks last night -- and I am not talking about MPO members -- was shocking. I was stunned to hear grown men and women shout out things like "moron!" and make threats of physical violence when people were expressing their approval for the toll roads or when Senator Wentworth spoke. These same men and women readily jumped on that giant ...

I'm not opposed, having used the Dallas system has only affirmed the fact that toll roads are my choice. People that moved up to 281/1604 only have themselves to blame. They made their choice and must live with the consequences.

Hilarious. The Toll Party people are like children throwing a tantrum. And like children, when they throw tantrums, they assume that what they want (whether or not that desire is in congruence with reality) is the only thing that matters. But there are many folks who live in that part of the world who realize that tolls are the only way to address to horrific auto traffic that exists in ...

Actually, City of San Antonio gets no sales tax money from Olmos Park, Terrell Hills or Alamo Heights. They are incorporated cities. The fundamental purpose, I believe, is for the government to provide the basic services like police, fire, roads, schools, prisons, etc. User pays would mean that only those with children would pay for schools, only those who use the police/fire department would get a bill for services, those who use the prisons...
