.22 hands down. If you;re looking for cheap shooting but want some kick, look into one of those CMMG bargain bin AR15s. .223 isn't expensive for a centerfire cartridge and manages to provide more kick and more fun than .22 LR... JMO.

I agree, Garand's are fun...but to say it's the reason we won WWII is, well, silly. We would've won if we were still using 03A3's, as well...because we could keep them supplied, even across oceans, while the Germans and Nipponese couldn't keep their rifles supplied, despite being much, much closer. FWIW, Eisenhower called the deuce and a half truck the most important weapon of the war, and that's a lot closer to...

I looked at this a while back. IMO chest rig, with a camelbak on your back to balance it out might be a good option. or a camelbak brand bag for a lcp or something similar in the zipper pocket.

yeah....it's that pesky 1000 dollar price tag that gets me though... I think I'm gonna opt for the Elite Match first and sweet Jesus I didn't realize the X-Five was that much.... I think I need to see a review on one to decide if that's justfiable...it better be shooting under an 1" at 25yds.

If you plan on using it for a long time, I would get the steel lip option.

Yes, the Garand makes the 30-06 fun to shoot. While the M-1 often gets compared to the 5 shot K98 Mauser and some love to say "thats why we won WWII" well...theres alot more to that. First, the US and German armies used groups of riflemen much differently. The Germans centered their infantry tactics around light machinegun groups. And God knows, the Germans had a great machine gun in the MGs 34 and 42. Yes, the Garand up...
