Thread: The Myth of Aspergers Syndrome

Started 1 month, 3 weeks ago by rowan22
I'm interested to get the opinions of forum members about the above. The proliferation of one disorder after another within the field of Psychology is very interesting don’t you think? "Coinciding" as it does, with the world wide imposition of surveillance technology and the erosion of individual concepts of freedom and democracy. Finding individuals to be "autistic" is a ...

I agree with what you say. My son does have autism and went into a coma after MMR jab, but asperger traits also run in my family. I have also thought and wondered whether it is just another way of labelling people who do not fit neatly into the box. I think there are many misdiagnosis going on as well ie phychiatrists label many people with aspergers if they have a behaviour problem but ...

I have been diagnosed with AS, if anyone here has AS, I recommend going to the WrongPlanet forum, it's good

I honestly think of Aspersers as a totally normal reaction to an abnormal situation. Most of what passes for "popular culture" is no more than the results of a room full of marketing strategists trying to figure out how to make people feel crap enough to feel the need to buy their shit! How else can this play out than to manufacture a plastic artificial contrived "normality" that is totally ...

There is a condition in somed people, usually male, in the brain which renders them unable to read emotions and body language in others, but I think Aspergers is being taken too far as a means of labelling anybody who doesn't seem to fit in.

Or to put it another way. If you start labelling people who feel different, you will create the situation as a self fullfilling prophecy.

Very true.

People have fallen into a sleep walk. Looking back over the history of the last fifty or so years. The great story of our time is the tension between the right and the left politically. The right with its emphasis on a none interventionist state. A state whose only role is to remove obstacles to "free trade" and to guard the nations assets. Implicit within these views is the idea that if ...

I have a brother with autism who's got friends with all kinds of handicaps. Asperger is real, but I also think that people diagnose it (ADHD too) without much thought being put into it. There could be many who have been misdiagnosed.

Do some research before making assumptions. What Does It Mean to Have Asperger Syndrome? What does it mean to have Asperger’s Syndrome? Clearly, since so many successful people seem to have the diagnosis (Dan Ackroyd, for one, announced his diagnosis on the air -- and rumor has it that Bill Gates may also have Asperger’s) it is not a disability in the classic sense. In fact, some historians suggest that Einstein, Mozart, and Alan Turing...
