Started 1 month, 1 week ago by BellsnRings

The problem is my FFIL is insisting that after the ceremony, we drive down to his place to do little puja and play couple of games @ his place and than drive back to the Venue to get ready for reception! Isn't this crazy...

Is there a lot of significance to this puja that he wants you to do? We had a similar thing. MIL wanted us to come back to her house after the ceremony/lunch to do a small puja. Basically it was a puja to welcome the bride into the family. Our timing wasn't so bad, so we were able to do it (ceremony and reception were at two different venues so we had to travel to the reception spot anyway....

we had a similar issue. my FMIL was insisting that after vidai, drive back to the hotel everyone was staying at to do the puja and play the games, then come back to the wedding/reception venue to get ready for the evening. my issue was that after that vidai, we needed to meet with an ordained priest to actually legally get married (our pandit wasnt ordained but was a family friend so kinda ...

That would have been impossible and eventually we ended up doing the puja in their hotel room which was the same place as the ceremony and reception. I recently attended a wedding where they used a hotel room where the guests were staying ...

What are these games that you speak of? I'm assuming this is a gujarati tradition. Shilps - you're not alone! I typed FMIL first, but then realized. DH and I have not been calling each others mother's "mom" yet. It's too weird! Finally a MG! My Bio **Updated 6.16.09 WITH WEDDING VENDOR REVIEWS!!**

Thnks girls.. my Mom/FI agrees with me. Not only that but my mom doesn't reccomend us being on the road for so long on the day of the wedding. FFIL is conveniently conservative.. FI and I have agreed that we will ask him to do the puja @ the venue or at the hotel where other groom-side of the families are staying. Thanks for sharing your experiences. As we grow older together, As ...
