Thread: The Knife: good or bad?

Started 1 month, 3 weeks ago by OldGunney
This is a question I pose to my fellow TGers. Is the knife an effective and viable weapon to be used on our servers or is it frowned upon? I've used the knife on occasion and have collected about 50% of my buddies dog tags. A few days ago I spotted a sniper just laying out near our uncap firing toward the next flag. THought it was a noob so I took my time, snuk up behind him and knifed him....

Well, no offense to your friend, he needs to grow up. The knife is a viable weapon but I much prefer anything else to it. When Im out of rockets, voss, pistol, grenades, and my defib is overheated then I take out my knife but that is only because everything else has longer attack ranges. It is viable and can be used effectively with sniper kit but I think everyone will agree, a knife is not ...

Uh, yeah, that's not something to get upset over. I like knifing people that are just sitting there or sniping, though I often get too close and miss or something. But usually it comes out once my primary weapon and pistol are out.

I think I am more annoyed with myself if someone knife's me. It means I wasn't paying attention and helps me regain focus. By the way Gunney, infantry being killed by a tank is the best thing ever.

There is already a thread going on with a similar discussion. On the battlefield, every weapon is useful and every weapon has a purpose. The knife is no different. Knifing soldiers is a good tactic if you take an enemy unawares, or if you are fighting in close quarters and all your other guns require a reload.

I remember some fellow TGers having bad reactions to being knifed but also some getting over excited because they got someone's tag and cheering out in TS. (I'm not pointing at anyone) If they get better selfesteem from getting others' dogtags well, good for them. What I hate is when a knifer is running towards me, I shoot at him but he jumps over me then knifes me. That's silly. (u_u)

edit: I didn't carefully read the post. I read 'collected 50% dogtags' and assumed the worst. It may be demoralizing, but as a sniper he should be aware of what snipers are weak against. He failed to protect it. I don't see anything wrong because you were exploiting the sniper's weak spot.

People shouldn't complain about fairly being knifed.

Re: The Knife: good or bad? The problem most people have is if they use their AR and pistol, and think they HAVE to knife (they really should try to reload unless they know they'd be shot without a doubt doing it), they just pull their knife and charge straight at the enemies. This is a very bad idea. What should happen is you (the knifer) should sprint at about a 45 degree angle towards them until either they are out of ammo, or you are...

Especially when you shoot the guy, know he has one hit left and they seem to get you from longer then arms length.

Any weapon can be utilized in the required situation. I honestly think that most people don't know when that situation is and usually make a bad move pulling out the knife in the first place and that's why it ends up developing a bad rep. Also to add and I'm sure many of members here could agree, the best defense against being knifed is to keep moving. When I first played this game awhile back I think I moved half as much as I...

Just know when its appropriate to use a knife, and dont just knife people to get their dogtags, do it to kill them and eliminate the OPFOR. Might as well put the knife away if you are gonna just go around knifing people, you will die fast.

when your up close and personal.. knife wins every time, only defense is a pistol... but don't get too close.. I hate that one thing about this game.. if you are on top of your enemy.. super close.. knife doesn't kill and misses??? I don't get that.

lol, ole Gunney lost his dog tags three times on Sidi map last night to same player, Lunar_knight! Not upset or anything, thought it was funny. He was running recon with cloak knifing the engineers. He only got 6 points entire round.
