Thread: The Hunchback of Notre Dame?

How about he did an adaptation of that? Johnny Depp as Quasimodo and Alan Rickman as the evil man who takes care of him. Wouldn't that be epic?

It's easily his sort of thing. Too easily, IMO, it would be heartening to see him challenge himself again ala Ed Wood and Big Fish.

Mainly because he doesn't take risks. This is not to say that it won't be very enjoyable. But Depp?? As Quasimodo? LOL I don't think he has the ability to play such a role, he plays a lot of interesting characters but he can't emote for sht. How could he ever portray the tragedy, desire, and despair of such a character? Plus Bonham Carter as Esmeralda? YUCK. Not that she isn't ...

So why does she take things in her own direction? Why do we end up in unnecessary fights because of people from the U.K. who aren't reallly that white? Is it because they're famous? I just meant in general because I'm tired of people telling me I can't be white. Sorry, not what I mean, don't need to type this out. http://i714.photobucket.com/albums/ww145/christina barrett/Me/2009-10-2 5-...

I dunno, I guess I COULD see Depp as Quasi, but I'd rather see someone else... But Helena as Esme? That's just... bad... _____________________________ "If you don't think, then you shouldn't talk." -Lewis Carroll

With the exception of Timothy Spall and Alan Rickman that cast list is utterly embarrassing. Orlando Bloom? He's probably the worst actor I've ever seen. I don't think you guys have ever seen an epic, I would suggest Ben Hur. It's old and campy, but it should give you an idea of just how brilliant these films are supposed to be. Or There Will Be Blood, Burton just doesn't make those ...

Bloom = not a great actor, but perfect for the role. He's just the pompous pretty-boy jackass the role needs. I'm not a fan of Bloom's, but that's why I chose him. You're not supposed to like that character (unless your base of reference is the Disney version, but I hope not) so why not cast someone unlikable? Perhaps Jude Law would be a better choice. Better actor, equally smarmy and pretty-...

I'd have to disagree about Helena as Esmerelda. I can see Burton twisting the character into some sort of weird gypsy woman as opposed to the dancing beauty we know traditionally. She'd trick people instead of dancing for them or something along those lines. That'd be right up her alley. --------- I'm a paranoid schizophrenic; I'm my own entourage.

That could be kind of cool, but I personally think Esmarelda needs to be younger and more exotic. Alice Army My Mother says To Get Things Done You Better Not Mess with Major Tom

personally. I'd rather see Jude Law as he is a much better actor. The only lasting truth is Change. -Octavia Butler

The fact that she sells herself (in a sense, she does dance for people) is what's so fascinating about her. She's not perfect, she lives in squalor and does what she has to in order to live. I don't want to see that, even Disney didn't do that! The only lasting truth is Change. -Octavia Butler
