One of my favorite episodes was on the other day. Blanche thinks she is pregnant but it's really menopause. Best line: Sophia: "If it's a boy she can name it after it's father. Rick, Joe, Bob, Don, Dave." Isn't this the same episode where Blanche is distraught and runs to her room, slamming the door behind her. Rose and Dorothy follow. Dorothy calls out her name, and Rose says, "She's ...

One of my favorite episodes was on the other day. Blanche thinks she is pregnant but it's really menopause. I love that episode too. My favorite line is when they are in the psychiatrist's office and Dorothy is saying how therapists are like old friends. And Rose says something like "If they were really friends, they'd call them friends. They're called psychiatrists which comes from the ...
Dorothy calls out her name, and Rose says, "She's in there!" The line itself isn't that funny, but Betty White's delivery cracks me up everytime. It's like Rose has solved some big mystery about Blanche's disappearance. I used to work with a woman who said stuff like that all the time - we used to call her our resident Master of the Obvious. And of all the Girls' money-making schemes, I ...
Oh boy! Someone opened a "Continuity Errors" thread in the TV Potluck forum! If it stays open [which I doubt--the mods prolly want that stuff in the thread for each show], go easy on them. GG continuity errors could be a thread of its own.
It's funny how they managed to make Dorothy have both the tighest continuity but the biggest continuity error (her not having a child old enough to be the pregnancy they talked about in like every episode).
I know, that's the part that bugs me the most. Considering that Kate and Michael are consistently mentioned as being Dorothy and Stan's two kids and the fact that they bring up the 38-year marriage/knocked up in high school thing every damn minute, you'd think that at least one of the writers could have put two and two together and figured out, hey, wait a minute, that means Kate or Michael ...
Well, I got my Rue book from the library and here is what I took from the Golden Girls section: Estelle Getty was a great lady but had to read her "Picture this: Siciliy, 1921" stories from cue cards as her health was failing, even then. That, or Bea Arthur intimidated the hell out of her, as she did not have those problems on Golden Palace. Bea Arthur was very professional, on her mark and ...
I know this is brought up every couple of months, but it needs to be repeated: I wish they would BURN the Empty Nest "pilot" episode. Egads, is it awful.
I know this is brought up every couple of months, but it needs to be repeated: I wish they would BURN the Empty Nest "pilot" episode. Egads, is it awful. I saw it was on today and ended up watching something else. I just can't watch that episode.
Part of what makes me love that episode so much is that it gives us a glimpse into how Blanche really sees her friends. Sophia is a wacky but loving mother, Rose is a wise friend who understands the pain she's suffered, and Dorothy is a desirable woman who deserves a happy ending (regardless of how the dream goes Dorothy always gets one of them). I always love seeing under the mask Blanche wears most of the time and getting a glimpse at...
I can't stand the Sophia gets married two-parter, but not because of Sophia. I can't stand the guy she married. He rubbed me the wrong way, much like Blanche's mammy did. Funny enough, I used to feel similar to any episode with Stan, but I've come to adore Stan over the years. From the moment he first appears at Kate's wedding to the moment he bows his head in acceptance when the priest says "speak now or...
"Mrs. George Devereaux" is probably my favorite episode. Love both plots and find myself torn between laughter and tears throughout. Sadly, George Grizzard, who played George as well as his brother Jamie, is also no longer with us.
Blanche went to the hospital to have a pacemaker implanted. Sophia went to the hospital with pneumonia in the episode where Stan is remarrying and Dorothy decides she wants him back. This one was actually on Hallmark this morning. She also went to the hospital after getting hit by a fly ball and Stan schemed with her to get a settlement out of it, and the doctor came over to the house when she thought she was having a heart attack but it was...
Mary had a little lamb has some good quips in relation to the pregnant teenager but I always watch it for the Merrill sub plot. That whole scene with him and Dorothy and Sophia just cracks me right up. Them sitting in the chair together is particularly priceless.
I guess we should just be grateful that she gave us the 3 extra seasons. Or the first four. According to Rue's autobiography, Bea hesitated to do the show to begin with even though she was really wanted for the role of Dorothy.
I really hate the episode where Rose is trying to get Bob Hope as the MC for the charity variety show. She really comes off as soooo dumb here. Not just naive or lacking common sense, she comes off as an actual idiot. I just have no sympathy for a grown woman of Rose's age actually thinking Bob Hope will just show up for this event because of her childhood fantasy. Ugh. This ep does have a great Dorothy line: "I'll be the...
I haven't seen the Empty Nest one in so long, I might actually give it another shot... isn't David Leisure in it? Are the girls on at all after the beginning? Friendly advice...don't! It really, really sucks. The Girls are only in the first maybe 5 minutes, then it's just Rita Moreno whining about how boring her life is. Complete and utter waste of 1/2 hour of your life. Especially since nothing ever came of it....
