One of the books that accompanied me on holiday last week was Joe
Abercrombie's The Blade Itself...
What an excellent book and in my opinion, just as entertaining
as Scott Lynch's Lies of Locke Lamora... I strongly urge any fans of Lynch
to check out stable-mate, Abercrombie.
Talk about anti-heroes... Glokta is a fascinating character and whilst you
detest him, you can't help but enjoy his ...
I read it just after I read the lies of locke lamorra. I must say that The
blade itself is a very entertaining book that gets better and better the
further you get into it.
I'm actually looking more forward to the sequals of Joe Abercroombie's and
Scott Lynch's series than to say Martin or Bakker=)

Can see you've been away, Juzzza!
Interesting you liked Logen most; I think my favourite's Glokta.
Hobbit
Awwww, when you've got friends and neighbours, you're the richest man in
town . . .
Gollancz are indeed at the cutting edge, and going from strength to
strength of late in the fantasy field with authors like James Barclay,
Scott Lynch, Tom Lloyd, Chris Wooding, etc. etc. Oh yeah, and that
Abercrombie guy.
Next book, Before They Are Hanged will be on British shelves in March next
year.
Strange ...
I read it recently and thought it was excellent. I agree that Glokta's
character is wonderful. Pity we have to wait til march. Can't you write a
bit faster Joe
The secret dealings of the publishing world mean that if the normal
timescale is used the book is pretty much written, but we're now into
galley proofs, copy editing and all that malarky.
Shouldn't be soon, blog.
Hobbit
The Blade Itself is honestly one of the best fantasy books, nay BOOK I've
read in a long time. A lot of people have been comparing it to The Lies of
Locke Lamora, and I honestly found it was superior to Scott Lynch's debut.
The characterization was superb, and for bloody once they felt REAL. I find
the dialogue adds a lot to the story, and worked better for this novel
compared to TLOLL. The way ...
As Hobbit correctly points out, the journey from writing to publication is
a difficult and dangerous one, fraught with peril. Well, not really, but it
seems to take about a year, in general. Second book has been finished for
some time and bound proofs will be circulating in the next month or two. I
can say without doubt that it's the best book ever written . . . by me.
There may also be some ...
So thinking further ahead, Joe, how far are you with Book 3? (No pressure
or anything! ) Have you been set deadlines yet or is it still in the early
stages?
Hobbit
I'm getting towards half way through the third book. Deadline in theory is
June of next year, aiming for a release around March of 2008, though that
will depend a bit on what other authors are doing.
I found of couple of reviews for 'Blade' over at Infinity Plus ... whilst searching for homes for my own little ARC... Anyway, they liked it... "Finding a writer like Abercrombie amidst the clutter of second-raters who crowd the fantasy genre, is like the sun breaking through dark clouds; he wakes you up and reminds you why you took up reading in the first place."
I know I shouldn't be doing this, and god knows, it's not as if he needs the publicity , but Joe at his website is offering FREE SIGNED Advance Reading Copies of The Last Argument of Kings to all those 'average readers' that want to be involved. (You'll have to read the Blog post to understand that one.) Just remember to say Thank You. Hobbit: one of those Artsy-Fartsy Critics, I guess.

I think I can pretty much guarantee you won't have to wait five years for the third one, Last Argument of Kings , as it's finished and just being edited now. It'll be out in the UK in March 2008, with proofs probably circulating around the end of this year. It's...

Is there any chance that there will be an audio version of this series? I know Lies, and The name of the Wind have recently been release in audio form, and Abercrombie's Best Served Cold is also available in audio. Also, Best Served Cold, isn't really a sequel, but if I understand correctly shares a world with The First Law trilogy. What would I lose if I listened to Best Served Cold, without having read the trilogy?
