Thread: Terrier mix not putting on weight

Polo is (we presume) some sort of terrier mix that my sister adopted almost a year ago. He was 11 months old at the time and overweight from being free fed some kind of Purina. We switched him to Nutro but ever since then he's dramatically dropped weight. He should probably be around 35 lbs, but hovers between 29 and 30. We have had fecals, blood tests, and x rays done, all of which ...

A number of things you can try. Im going through the same things though. You can try increasing his food intake. Also can try just increasing his fat intake. Protein will help as well. When I was feeding kibble, I never fed anything less then 35% protein because I have a very active dog. Another thing, up his exercise. I know it sounds funny, but it will help to build more ...

Have you thought about switching from Nutro to another food to see if he will thrive more. I know many of the Nutro food have a lot of corn and wheat. Maybe switching to a better quality food, absent of corn and wheat will help.
