Thread: Temperature guage incorrect

Started 1 month, 2 weeks ago by sixsicsix19
I have a 2008 honda cbr600 and i'm having a problem with my temp. guage reading correctly. I tested the coolant temp. with one of those laser guns and it shows to be incorrect. I've replaced the ect sensor all ready but that did not help. Any suggestions on what might be wrong sure will help.

Are you testing the coolant temp? or aiming to gun on the radiator ?

Give us more details. What temp does the bike say... what does the infrared temp gun say?

sixsicsix19 replied 1 month, 1 week ago
the gun says its 150 degrees and the bike says 230 degrees. When the bike claims its running 230 degrees i can put my finger down in the coolant and it feels kinda hot but at 230 degrees it should have burned my finger i would think.

There could be air in the system. open up the radiator cap and start the engine. Check to see if you have flow by letting the thermostat open. If the thermostat is stuck close that could be the issues your seeing.

Depending on where the ECT sensor is (i don't know) the temperature may vary alot. It should be the hottest at the thermostat housing and the coolest at the radiator near the lower hose.

My next guess would be the temp sensor. I have one from an '06 which is the same part # as the '08. $10 plus shipping if you're interested.

If something is clogged, You should test for flow. By opening the radiator cap and let the thermostat. Once its open there is flow. While the radiator cap is open might as well burp air out of the coolant system. There might be air or a clogged in the system and that could also be the issues your seeing. You need to test flow and burp any air out if the system. If you got no flow then there something wrong with the water pump or a clogged. Air...

if its not tstat, not sensor, and as above checking ecu ... that leaves either something being clogged, or water pump? somethings causing the descrepancy

if you've replaced the sensor aleady, check the voltages to make sure that the ECU is sending the correct input voltage as well as to make sure the ECT Sensor is responding to temperature fluctuations within range.
