Thread: Tell us your Black Friday experiences in the Triangle
Started 3 months, 3 weeks ago by lovebrentwood
I don't ever go shopping on Black Friday, but I'd love to hear the experiences of others. Then maybe I'll go next year.
So tell us your stories:
Are you planning to go shopping at 12 am?
Assuming you're reading this after midnight or later on on Black Friday:
Where did you go?
What did you buy?
What kind of deal did you get?
How much do you think you saved?
What were the ...
I never even heard the term "black friday" in terms of the shopping lunacy the day after Thanksgiving until this year, but my experiences are that I either work or hang out at home raking leaves/etc - both which are a barrel of laughs compared to shopping. I'd rather cut off my arms than go shopping on Fri and these people shopping at absurd hours and driving themselves to a frazzle are IMO ...
I'm one of those who would never get up early and stand in line at a store with hordes of other people. Online shopping is the only way I'll do "Black Friday," if I do it at all. The deals/sales extend far beyond just the one day anyway, so thinking you only have 1 day to shop and save $$$ is a fallacy.
This was my first (and last) BF experience. Went to TRU for the midnight opening. Arrived at 10:30 and the line was already wrapping around the back corner of the building. Got what I needed inside in about 30 minutes then waited for 50 minutes to check out. Super nice people in line. We held each others' spots if someone had to run and get something that had been forgotten. Bought games, ...

I just woke up!
Later today we are headed to the beach and tonight will check out the Christmas lights at Airlie Gardens in Wilmington. Hey, with me not out there shopping the rest have a better chance of buying those hard to find Zhu Zhu Hamsters!
Zhu Zhu Hamsters
Yeah helping is that I buy very few presents nowdays (my girlfriend mostly). I remember being younger and not only wanting/needing to buy more (ironic since I made so much less) but wearing myself out trying to find the right/best possible gifts that people would like (and admittedly often at the last minute). I don't miss that in the least!

Thanks for all your responses -- and photos. You're all good reporters! I think I'll stick to online shopping, cash, and gift certificates, for my Christmas recipients.

I avoid malls as much as I can around the holidays (esp. Crabtree where parking can take 15 to 20 min on a regular weekend afternoon if you're trying to get to restaurant row there). Online shopping is my salvation. Saves me time, saves me $$$, saves me aggravation, and saves what little sanity I have left. With many stores offering free shipping, it has proven to be the best option for me for many years now.

didn't go out at all, but i have been shopping www.oldnavy.com like crazy since they had the EXACT same sales online as in the store. looking forward to cyber Monday, though! Mike
I normally do the Black Friday shopping in our house. This year I was snug in my bed while the husband was standing in a line that wrapped around Toys R Us at midnight. He left the store around 4am with most of what we were looking for, and a few extras. He said that the crowd was huge and that the line for electronics was crazy. He bought light saber attachments for the Wii for $10, some $10 Nintendo DS games, and some other stuff that I...
Went to lowes around 2PM and got the 2 things I wanted. 50 dollar compound miter saw (normally 114), and 30 dollar shop vac (normlaly 70). Not any busier than normal days
