Great write-up gadget, and great idea. I worry about one of my kids trying to open the tailgate and that thing coming down hard on their head. Great mod for my list! Thanks.

Hi there, I just wanted to comment on the Easydown spring install. YOU ONLY HAVE TO DRILL ONE HOLE above the tailgate hinge- ands NOT through the second wall behind it    and protect the taillight enclosure-    by using a long drill bit or  protective covering!!!Live and learn I guess      Also use the hammer for inserting the other end into the tailgate- Otherwise not too eventful ...

I just completed the " Torsion Bar " install: 1 )  Sorry no pics 2 )  Yes, I agree with "_gadget_" that you need to cut off approx 3/4 of inch from "A" side of bar. 3 )  You do not need to drill through the second wall.  I did drill through both, but then I realized the "A" side of the torsion bar must lay vertical and if were to pass through second wall you could not get it to ...

Received mine yesterday! Hope to install tonight.

When you install the torsion bar, might I suggest that when you drill the hole in the tailgate, wobble the drill bit around a bit on the second hole, maybe even drilling a second hole to the right of it, on the second hole only inside the tailgate, right being toward the passenger side of the vehicle, I've put two of these on, and it seemed to help in getting it in there somewhat. ...

OMG! All I can say is Do It! Read the instructions and JUST DO IT! I have an '04 and there was a second horizontal stiffener I had to drill through for the "B" end of the torsion bar to fit in all the way. I will bet that it reduced the tailgate weight by 90-95%! It doesn't even streatch out the safety cables when open! The wife can close it with her PINKY FINGER !! Best mod I've...

Yeah!  Even after asking the questions, mine isn't pretty either, but you can't tell.  Have some cleaning up to do, but works great.

Quote from: MichiganSilver03 on 04/09/09 10:24 PM You folks should try it with the EZ Down also. Open it and let it float down and easy to lift back up. I got them both installed. There goes my only form of exercise

I have flames, teak, a lowering kit, custom rims and THIS IS MY FAVORITE MOD! I just smile every time I open or close that tailgate now, and with the LED's and that tip switch I quit worrying about if I forgot to shut the tailgate as I drive away! Butch

Quote from: 02 Z71 on Yesterday at 06:08 PM I just got mine today. I will be installing it this weekend. Thanks for the great detailed instructions gadget!  Don't forget to measure twice and drill once! And also, don't forget to "twist" your tailgate onto the bar... it will NOT go down onto the bar easily unless you do
