Thread: TV Forum: How I Met Your Mother - Season 5 - disappointing?

I swear by HIMYM to rule my life, but I have to admit I was disappointed with season 4. It started to be inconsistent (Barney's mom was originally named Patty) and awkwardly unfunny, with the only episode that strikes me as consistently hilariously being the 3 days rule. Generally I don't judge shows until the third or fourth viewing, but on first viewing of season 5 I don't see it being much different to season 4. It has it's moments, but I think the constantly laughing and deeply planned moments are gone. The show hit it's peak too early, and now it will just fade off and continue to be a good, but hardly groundbreaking show.

so i am liking this season. i cant wait for the other doppelgangers. but like every other tv show. you cant expect everything to be good all the time. only seinfeld accomplished that, and so far not much other shows have. Edited on 10/06/2009 10:06pm

Is it just me or has season 5 been slightly disappointing and unfunny so far. Saw the downfall towards the end of the 4th season, but was hoping for it to come back in the 5th, but it just hasnt done it for me yet. Any other opinions?

I really liked the first one. The second one wasn't as good but there were still things I enjoyed. Gonna watch 503 tonight so we'll see how it goes, but overall I'm still loving the show.

Well, I loved first episode and was happy with episodes 2 and 3. So far I like this season better than 4th one, although it's hard to judge whole season after three episodes. We'll see where it goes, but I'm happy with the direction it took. :-)

I agree with you !! Season 5 was disappointing till "Robin 101" came along !! I, too noticed the downfall at the end of last season. But I didn't hate the 1st episode, at least not the 2nd half of it which was actually pretty funny The exact same thing happened on the 2nd episode, a -not that funny- 1st half followed by a -funny as hell- 2nd one !! They should really get Ted a new story line and ease up on the Barny-Robin thing !!

Ya but the Barrel thing was pretty sad. Marshall is funny with his confidence in himself. e.g Barney " Your hand is enormous" Marshall "What do you expect you've seen my Penis"
