No Disputing it now! These were taken form the provisional orbit, once the LRO is in the final orbit the NASA boffins expect 2-3times better resoultion too!

Project Oxcart replied 4 months, 2 weeks ago
From speaking with friends recently the final resolution will be in the region of 60-80CM

I hope that in the next few days somebody will be able to pencil in the final approach path. Will be nice to see the exact "messy terrain" they had to avoid on final approach. One comment.... I was wondering for a moment how one was going to pick a 5-pixel-across dot (the LEM being only 4m across) from the other features in the landscape. Mark's picture answers the question... ...

"Even with that resolution, we won't see the flag waving in the moon breeze...." I believe Aldrin said that he saw Apollo 11's flag fall over as they took off (hence why future missions put the flag further away from the landing point), so you wouldn't see it standing up either way!

Once the Mission reaches its final orbitt a massive amount of Detail will come into view making the Above Apollo 14 image Jump into really sharp Focus.

Re the astronauts' "footpath"... They would have "shuffled" a lot of moondust, so it's not just footprints we're looking at. With a bit of luck, the later hi-res LRO pictures will also pick up the "Moon Buggies" and the tracks they left. CJ

CJ the Rovers are on the list of things to find and will be fairly simple as they should be sitting next to the Landers of Apollo 15-16-17. One thing that is often overlooked is that once the Ascent Stages reached Orbit and the Crews Abbandoned them they were Programed to Crash Back into the Moons Surface, So along with the Ascent Stages of Apollo"s loads of other man made Objects and Debris...

Remember the rovers were parked a short distance away from the lem so they could capture the take off on tv. The thing that will be nice to see if the initials if cernan's daughter can bee see that he wrote in the dust. Other things to find will be the craters from the 3rd stages, that weresent to crash into the moon.

"When I see them next time, I will make sure I am right back and not in the Elipse like the last few I went to. I can then see the WHOLE claw and the full effects" We were in the upper level of FedEx Field, the Washington Redskins' stadium that seats around 91,700 for football (and probably more for a concert considering the general-admission field area). Usually I prefer sitting closer, and on the PopMart Tour my...

This one here really shows a lot more detail for the A14 site. They never quite got to Cone crater, as they just thought it was too far, but they got pretty close!

I had this dream just now.... Somebody, somewhere, will convert these photos into MS FlightSim scenery, add a LEM cockpit, and challenge everybody to fly that final approach themselves. Would be a nice tribute, these forty years on.... CJ

U2 had the same issues as Muse, at Wembley 1, the sound was dreadful. The stadium (despite using u2's sound engineer in the re-design of the rebuild) decided to ignore said sound engineers instructions and open the rest of the roof for that gig. The sound bounced about quite a bit. Thus ruining most peoples experiences of that concert. Mine to a lesser extent, as I was just happy to be standing 3 in front of God Bono. However to someone...
