I was chatting with a member through PM on GolfWrx tonight about a certain player who i believe is a Hitter , and he believes is a Swinger . It got me to thinking about what I believe to be a Hitter I hope this thread does not turn to the same old crap and gets off topic with arguments and mud slinging. All I am asking of anyone is to post your opinion on what players you consider ...
QUOTE (bjackson @ Sep 12 2009, 12:43 AM) I'm not much of a swing analyzer guy, but to me this is the epitome of a swinger Yes! One thing you will notice is @ Compression his right elbow is still bent and his shoulders are open. Swinger could throw the club forward at impact and Hitter can't. Pure Swinger

QUOTE (texan_golf @ Sep 11 2009, 10:56 PM) Swinger could throw the club forward at impact and Hitter can't. I really like that as an identifier. Only thing is all of your "hitter" pics are with irons. Fred Couples is using a driver, which is a flatter swing, which makes it easier to throw the club at impact.

Tex... the hitter vs swinger is really not too valuable in analyzing ANYTHING...yes? A true "hitter" paddlewheels it with virtually no forearm rotation, and a decided lack of pivot rotation.... ...most of your examples merely have prominent flying wedges, which gives the appearance of a "hitting" motion.... when they use a pivot rotation-- even if its preceeded by a linear CoG shift... I...

Some really good posts in this thread already! My opinion is that hitting or swinging is a very personal thing, and very difficult to label. Only the player knows for sure, and hey are usually guessing. Lynn Blake taught Brian Gay for a long time with both thinking he was a swinger. After analyzing Brian's "feels" for awhile, they decided he was a hitter. What did that do to their strategy...

QUOTE (downtoscratch @ Sep 16 2009, 04:23 AM) I would still very much like to see the "elbow passing ball before impact" swing in a better quality video. Anything available, Lake? Thanks, dts DTS.. I will film him again tomorrow... honestly I do not like right arm swinging... waiting for his high school golf season to end to start changing the picture If you will look at his left arm there is slack present...
QUOTE (ej002 @ Sep 13 2009, 10:36 PM) QUOTE (hoganfan924 @ Sep 13 2009, 09:32 PM) QUOTE (tbonetw @ Sep 13 2009, 10:28 PM) There is such thing as a right armed swinger, you know. At least Homer said so in a video I saw. Yes, which is why I mentioned it. The right elbow becomes the "fulcrum" of the swing. I've played around with it and like it, especially for short irons....
QUOTE (texan_golf @ Sep 16 2009, 11:50 AM) QUOTE (iteachgolf @ Sep 16 2009, 10:42 AM) The recommended stroke patterns for hitting and swinging are just that recommendations. As long as the imperatives are satisfied there are almost infinite ways to swing the club successfully. For those of you who say Homer wasn't a good golfer what are you basing this on? What do you consider good? Shooting in the mid...
QUOTE (ej002 @ Sep 16 2009, 09:38 AM) QUOTE (tm22721 @ Sep 16 2009, 06:11 AM) In TGM Homer defines the 24 components of a hitter, then he defines the 24 components of a swinger. There is significant overlap but not even close to 100%. These are considered important enough that a GSED is required to commit them all to memory. Since there is overlap, why can't a particular person exhibit both components of...
[I'm pretty sure a 3 for Homer would be stretching it pretty good . . . . he admittedly wasn't a very good player . . . . don't think played much . . . plus he looked like Mr. Magoo and Mr. Furley had a baby . . . very much unathletic. There some footage of him swinging . . . backswing was like oh boy this is going to be a train wreck . . . but thru the ball the wedges looked nice. He could demonstrate. But does that compromise...
Mostly they are feel based differences. Drive loading in a hitter vs. Drag loading for the swinger Hitter goes to the top - Swinger goes to the end There is significant overlap to be sure...to the point where pure hitting does not exist except as a feel
