It seems they now have Vista tweaks and advice. (In fact have had for quite some time).
This page is very informative. I started from this one .

Not where I've been looking .
I might have a go at one of them some time - closed the page and can't remember, 4 letters in lower case it says is disabled by default in Vista.
Most of the others it seems to recommend the default values anyway.

Hi
There are few tweaks that will make any real difference on Vista and Windows 7 where networking is concerned and I've always found the maximum throughput on my broadband line is obtainable without any tweaks.
First stop before you do anything is to check your router is compatible with some of the more advanced settings on Vista/Windows 7 by running the test here (IE only)....
Yes, the one I referred to is one of the congestion tweaks. Though thinking about it in my case even that is probably not relevant.
Just not in the mood to mess right now .

TCP Opitmiser on that site actually makes my connection worse, so do all similar apps ive tried, ive found http://www.dslreports.com/ and its guides for MTU and RWIN and its tests yeild better response, still nothing better ive found to tweak your connection than doing it manually.

I thought Vista didn't need tweaking anyway ? The TCP Optimizer site used to say you mustn't use it with Vista. Looks like you haven't read either link. Particularly the beginning of the first one, which is why I put it as the primary link.
If you read the earlier posts in this thread as well it might help.

interesting, the Compound TCP bit especially - I notice triangular download graphs on XP so I'll see if the XP hotfix improves things by getting it to ramp up faster or start at full tilt.

LOL . I can't think of a better place to be . (.co.uk wasn't available - it would have been preferable!) But they were links to TCP Optimizer pages. traingular graphs in windows is usually as a result of the blackhole mtu detection. This is turned on usually in vista when auto tcp tuning is enabled, not sure if it is on by default in win7 as well but in windows 7 a bug is fixed that allows you to have it disabled whilst auto tcp tuning is enabled. in XP SP3, I believe this got turned on by default as well (but was off by default in XP SP2 and older). if you interested I can provide you...
