Thread: Sync problem after usage cap block?

Started 2 months ago by nisaga
The hubby and I are just a little annoyed with ADSL24 at the moment. This is really two problems, the first being that they blocked our account because we reached our download limit (I'll post a rant in the ADSL24 review area), but I purchased a top-up and tried to connect and suddenly we had a mysterious 'sync' error and we're being told we have to buy a new wireless modem or pay BT £140 to...

The capping and loosing sync are completely unrelated as ADSL24 have no control over the exchange equipment, best thing to do is borrow some one elses modem/router and put it on the line with a known working filter in the test socket if that still doesnt work then its deffo a BT fault. Have ADSL24 run any etsts on the line as that will tell in most cases if the problem is with your equipment...

Thanks, Don't you think it's a little suspicious that everything was working fine until the block though? Router's been fine up til now.

I can understand what you are thinking but it is unrelated, I have worked in the ISP industry for the past 10 yrs in total from basic tech support, a field engineer, NOC networks, exchange engineer etc. Best thing to do is get a different router and filter from a friend and get that in the test socket if it doesnt work then dont worry about the charge from BT. The one thing you want ...

I second what ManOfMeans has said, the two issues are technically totally unrelated. Of course it may be that ADSL24 (i.e. through Entanet) has failed to lift the block on your account correctly, though that would result more in an 'authentication/radius server' than 'sync' error. It might also be worth trying BT's test login to see if the problem is with your ISP or the exchange/BT itself....
