I don't have the money, despite it clearly being a winning investment. Figured it should go to somewhere here, assuming it isn't gone already, and it certainly might be.

I did e-mail the seller. Supposedly all connections work but the phono section is "untested". The glass is cracked, all bulbs work and "One of the rear plastic bumpers broken. A few minor scratches."
I might give it a listen unless it gets sold soon.

I wonder what a round trip plane ticket to NY costs???
A 1980 is neither on my short or long list, i've lived with one in the past and...
I would consider at $750 but I would have to look closely at the damage. If it is a matter of swapping parts sourced from ebay, the final cost should come in well under $1k. If the box is in decent shape with original packing and with manuals, that would be a huge bonus.
Bowtie, I actually don't wonder about you all, I just had to be dramatic. I really do wish it were closer.
So, if you bought it you would have failed huh? I have done a lot more impulsive and stupid things than this.
After owning this monster for a short time I have to say that it works fine, but the box is not mint, no manual and the prices on e-bay dropped significantly. I have seen a few sold for barely above my purchase price in somewhat better condition. I will still have to do A/B with the 1250, but I am not sure that the "deal" was as good as I thougth. At any rate thanks for all the comments and inputs.
Ooooops, different "Brookfield", this must be in the mid-lower Hudson valley, no? The area i was thinking is ~30 miles south of Utica. Sancho, keep the 1250 no matter what you do, IMO it's "the best" sounding receiver Pioneer made. 25 minutes away would sure make it a lot more tempting, and not an unreasonable distance to cover in case it fails the "in person" test.

One of the rear rubber bumpers is missing, has a cracked glass and the top is a bit bent and will need re-spraying. It is mine I am picking it up tomorrow. Would it worth getting a nice Vintage Pioneer SG-9500 10 Band Graphic Equalizer...
