Thread: Sushi?

Started 1 month, 2 weeks ago by kikuri
( I'm Persian, so it stands to reason that I'm scared of sushi. Or at the very least, that's always been my thinking : \)  I have a friend visiting next month who *loves* sushi...so we'll be hitting some places and trying this and that. I'm wondering if sushi works well for vsg-ers? Is it dense? Has anybody gotten sick off it? How many California Rolls can most of you eat \(I don't know how ...

( I haven't had surgery yet but I was wondering about su****oo. I'm a huge fan!  I'm hoping that at least sashimi will be doable down the road \(that's the plain seafood that comes on the rice and I could do without the rice.  I'm hoping some post-op people reply to this post.  :\) ,)

( I love sushi!! I am 8 weeks out. I order a roll with cucumber on the outside, fish and avocado on the inside, no rice. I can eat 1/2 of one roll. I won't venture toward a rice sushi roll, but I have heard others say, between 1/2 and a whole calif roll. You could also try to get a roll with brown rice. Good luck! ,)

( Three pieces easily, sometimes four.  I only got sick the first time I had it because I was four weeks out and pushing my limits  I think I tried six in a half hour time frame. I bought a 12 piece a week ago and it lasted me two meals and three snacks, sushi for breakfast yum. ,)

( I guess I don't get the Persian reference.......but Sushi!  Love it.  I am a year out and have been eating Sushi since maybe 6 months.....I can eat 3 or 4 pieces of Sashimi, \(they are really small\)  but I only eat 1 or 2 sushi rolls \(pieces, not the entire roll\).  Kat ,)

( You can ask them to finely chop cucumber as a subsitute for rice.. one of the other beautiful lil VSG ladies recommended that to me... and it changed my life :\) Takes out the carbs \(other than sauce\) in the sushi :\) ,)

( I'm at our local Sushi place weekly!! I LOVE sashimi tuna...YUMMY!! I have tried a California Roll made with cucumber, but it's nothing compared to the tuna. I haven't tried any rice yet. I'm scared of it, so I'm not going there. I can usually eat 4 oz of the sashimi tuna...but I'm pretty full after all of that! Hope you enjoy the sushi you get next month!!  ,)

( Sashimi or seared tuna was the easiest thing for me to eat early after the surgery.  It was a good way for me to get some protein in.  I still order it a lot.  It is usually on the appetizer menu and works just great for me. ,)

( The only sushi I have ever tried is california roll and dynamite. I love both but I'm not sure if it is the sushi or the soy sauce and wasabi. I love to take a bite after dipping in the sauce and make my eyes water from the fire of the wasabi....I'm a sushi masochist! I'm still on liquids but looking forward to the day I can eat sushi again. I think I'm going to try some different ones. I'll ...

( I LOVE Toro sashimi \(just the tuna, no rice at all\) and am planning on this as a good protein source once I have the surgery and am back on solid food! 4 oz = about 26g protein, 1g fat, 0 Carb! Yum! ,)

( I find that I can eat it if I mostly eat out the middles and leave a lot of the rice. If I don't leave the rice, I can hardly eat any of it. I can eat 4-6 pieces depending on how much of the rice I eat. ,)
