Thread: Supply teachers in comparison with locum doctors

Started 1 year ago by tuftytail
When you visit the doctor's surgery and you see a locum, do you, like pupils say 'are you a real doctor?' Are locums considered to be perfectly adequate professionals by their in situ colleagues? Or do they suffer from the same snobber as in teaching? Whilst working in a school, I was asked by the staff if I there was any particular reason why I'm not in a permanent post and doing ...

Is that a salute to McGonagall, Geffone? Cx

I have no idea about McGonagall. If McGonagall treats us supply teachers ok well I am ok to salute and show respect.

I often get asked the permanent post question and I generally reply that "no I enjoy having my life back and not being at the mercy of paperwork" - shuts it down pretty quickly. When I get asked it by heads and deputies (again I get that a fair amount of time), I just reply that I'd rather do supply and wait for the ideal job to come up, rather than carpet bombing with applications and ...

Yep I have been asked that one a few times. They normally ask me which agencies are the best and do they pay to scale, before they hit the parachute. I tell them my fav agencies providing they are not in the same subject as me, (there is enough competition as it is if they are good!) Then I talk about the finer points like signing on with jobcentre plus and how you need an admin team...

A bloody awful day today. My comment that 26 words of 'persuasive writing' including 11 that were just a rehash of the title did not represent a reasonable return on 40 minutes were met with a, "how do you know, you're not a proper English teacher." After continued disruption I tried to find out a year 10 boys name. He refused to tell me so I picked up his exercise book. He ...

Asking a doctor, locum or otherwise, if they are a proper doctor is abusive. Doctors have to right to refuse to treat abusive patients.

I had what was probably my worst supply day today. Strangely, only 2 out of 5 classes had really objectionable behaviour; it was my treatment at the hands of the school and one teacher that greatly upset me. One teacher arrived in my lesson to speak to a pupil about some form that needed filling in. She didn't ask for permission to interrupt proceedings and as I needed information on...
