Thread: Super unleaded.......

Started 3 months ago by cadboy1
For the first time with my 03 5.3 with 112K I tried something other than 87 and used 91. Pulling the trailer and gear (around 3500 lbs) and 4 people the AV seemed much more lively. I never got pinging with 87 but it seemed to strain more than I remember. Maybe its because I don't drive her much and my olds is zippy? I have no idea but will probabaly use higher octane from now on. I use ...

I've never used anything but 87 octane in my '02 or '04, no pings It's really all the same gasoline but with different additives, I wouldn't waste my money buying premium but it's not impossible a tank full might improve performance. One tank full could clean your fuel injectors then go back to economy grade ? It won't hurt your truck to try it, just your wallet.

Possible any gas was better than the old gas ? Depends how long it sat. I wasn't thinking about weather but we've just went from 30s to 70s overnight a few times, that could cause more condensation than normal if you aren't driving it every day. I'd try and run it low and park it full, then just keep it full when not in use. That's what I do with my '94 S10 Chevy the wife drives, (she...

It sat for about 30 days or so being half full with the 87 octane gas. Thats about the longest it ever sits between uses. I try to take her to work at least one every week or two. Friday I took her to work and changed the ignition switch while I was there and Friday night I filled the other half with the 91 octane. I blew through about half a tank to get to the ATV park and filled it ...

Quote from: cadboy1 on 09/20/09 01:44 PM But I do agree its better to keep her full when not using. I keep my ATVs and Snowmobiles filled and use fuel Stabilzer off season No air in there to create condensation when full, I use stabilizer in my snow-blower mix since I don't need to use it often. It's not so much length of time but major temperature shifts, probably a good time ...

Guess I'm OLD SCHOOL!  I've used 93 octane in my Lanch since I bought it back in 2001. It has worked fine for me. The cost factor well, I don't drive very far to work. And being old school,  I've always been under the understanding that if you drive short distances you want to be able to burn your fuel clean and keep the injectors clean.  Maybe, I need to get out of the...
