I think it was LowZX that said "Hold oil filter, turn car" I learn a lot from him.

I use large multi grips, they work on the smallest filters all the up to filters 6" in diameter.

I got a TT oil filter T bracket I can do for 20 bucks if yours ends up with a stripped thread. edit his car is a commo
