Hello There is this movie where some bus passengers who remain blocked in the desert and they had to stay there for some days trying to survive. A striptease is a dance where a woman on a stage slowly removes her clothing, one piece at a time, until she is naked. So, your sentence is a metaphor. The men repairing the roof are acting like kind people right now, but as time goes by and they run out of supplies, everyone is going to slowly lose their ethics until they are fighting over a drop of water.

Envie, thank you very much. Do you still think that the word "show" can fit in the context? Can my interpretation go?

I wouldn't use "show". Don't know to explain why. Maybe "demonstration". "Display"? "Sample"? "Glimpse"?

I agree with Var18. The metaphor is contained in the word striptease , and without that word, the entire phrase is rendered useless. If you could explain to us why you want to re-write this sentence, maybe we would be able to help you. But to be honest, I think that if you are going to re-write it, you might as well just delete it entirely.

I think that the metaphor is doubly apt not only because it present the idea of "stripping" away the finer and more pleasant aspects of humans and the subsequent revelation of baser human drives but because it suggests that this will be a prurient and almost lurid display, salacious and depraved.
