Thread: Street Fights - Looping or straight punches?

Someone with experience could maybe answer?
In street fights/self defence what kind of punches and parades are the best. I've always thought straight punches are perfect against your wildly swinging average boozehound because they're much faster, but when I see Fedor knock out people left and right with his swinging hooks I think again?
Also, which kind of parades do you prefer? Crazy ...
I don't know what a parade is? If you mean like a parry, the best option is evading the attack and leaving the situation. If you have to stick it out, there's no real "best" parry. There's only the parries you've trained and the ones you haven't. Stick with the former.
As far as best punch for a street fight - the one you've trained the most and have the most confidence in.
I ...
Don't street fight, it's dumb.
That said, I'd go with hooks. If executed correctly you'll have more chance of knocking someone down with a well placed hook than a straight punch. But that's just me, some guys might have bombing straights.
More important then what punches you throw is how good your footwork is. That way you can get the fuck away when that someone you decided to streetfight with pulls a knife on you..
90% of streetfights the dudes are throwing loopy haymakers.
and most people are right handed and go with that first.
i haven't been in a streetfight in years but in my experience best is left hand up to guard the haymaker. step in with the straight right onto their fucking face.
if someone was to be the aggressor now i'd probably do the same thing left guard up and maybe an overhand right...

Hey, thanks for answers!
Of course street fights are dumb, but so is being a pushover. I see more and more people thinking they can say and act however they please because they think no ones going to throw down.
I am almost never in a situation were a streetfight is necessary anymore, because people usually don't start shit with me for no reason as I guess I look like I can handle ...

It's a solid point, but leg kicks are going to infinitely safer than throwing head or even body kicks. I feel like -- for the most part, at least -- leg kicks are not going to disrupt the balance of a trained individual, and a untrained attacker who tries to protect their leg with their hands or tries to catch a leg kick is most likely going to end up with a broken hand or two. The same thing applies to the clinch: Most untrained...

Thats a good reply ShindoNinja.. I would be wary of kicking on the street cause it would be very bad if leg got caught. I agree that it's not good to fight as a grown up, but the problem is in many places and countries people get into all kind of problems when they're drunk. It amazes me how people think they can behave however they like just because they're drunk. I think its because they've grown up in society were there...
