Sometimes, loyalties and prejudices have no basis in reality For many years, every time Ford was mentioned, I parroted : Found On Road Dead, or Fix or Repair Daily. Just so people would know I was hip about cars. I did this until I finally had a chance to buy a Lincoln. bill

The main issue I had with Ford was their lack of standardization. I once replaced a distributor with a badly worn bushing in a 351 Windsor in a Ford pickup for a friend. I picked up a replacement distributor at a local salvage yard. I figured all 351 Windsor distributors would be the same, so I didn't bother to check it for match very closely. More teeth equals less slop. They improved the design. Today fuel injectors or crank sensors might "look" the same, but function very differently.

They improved the design. 12 times?? IIRC, the parts counter person at the Ford dealership told me that there were twelve different gears available for the distributor... It's been a while though - I could be wrong on the number, but it was more than a few, at least from what he advised me... He did supply me with the correct gear that I needed, and I only needed to drift out the pin,...

Ok, maybe it was less engineering and more trial and error...

It's been a while though - I could be wrong on the number, but it was more than a few, at least from what he advised me... He did supply me with the correct gear that I needed, and I only needed to drift out the pin, place the gear on the shaft and press the pin back...
