Thread: Stone Crab Claws in NOVA

Started 1 month ago by HOF44
Any place serve these up in the Northern Va area?? Since CaptnRich brought those up for the DDP I have been wanting to get some more. They have move to the top of my list of favorite seafood. Or is this mostly a Florida thing that you have to order from there?

I think they have them at McCormicks usually. And yeah I know exactly what you mean about the difference in blue since we were kids. Still Phillips, and some other places have great crabs. Sure, I have had them plenty of times. Actually might have some king or snow tonight. (I forgot it's all you can eat at this place downtown). There goes my plan for hot dogs and burgers.

Ever had the Snow Crabs prepared with spices like Blue Crabs? There is a place near me that is only take-out that does them this way. They are awesome.

Some grocery stores around here sell Jonah Crab claws. They look similar to stone crab claws IMO. Maybe it's the same thing.

I dip them in melted butter and old bay. Its 27 bucks for all you can eat. Last time I went I had 14 re-orders. lol.

I've only seen 'em available in Florida and Las Vegas (where they were obviously shipped in from Florida). Quote: Originally Posted by Kosher Ham Over Blue Crabs ? You must be crazy. But stone crabs are found in warm water. Perhaps the wiki updater got confused. And they are Alaskan king crabs.

Sicksoul, stone crab claw/legs can fit in your hand where King crab legs are as long as your arm. Stone crabs are tropical and King crabs are arctic

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_crab King crabs , also called stone crabs , are a family of crab -like decapod crustaceans chiefly found in cold seas. Because of their large size and the taste of their flesh, many species are widely caught and sold as food , the most common being the red king crab (Paralithodes camtschaticus Wikipedia also I read something like that some where else.

We have them down here in Florida. I've yet to try them though. Hmmm. Maybe I'll have to try them soon.
