Article Comments for Stargate Universe: "Darkness" Review by Ramsey Isler Summary: The producers of Stargate Universe promised a "darker" story than previous installments in the Stargate franchise, and this episode takes that a bit too literally as the starship Destiny runs out of power and the lights go out. This could have...
Wow, this reviewer's not happy whichever way they go! Last week he was unhappy that Air pt 3 made it look like we were about to hit "planet of the week" stories, now he doesn't like that it's "crisis of the week" stories.
Here's something to try on for size, how about the fact that they actually seem to be telling an extended story ...
I liked it...this reviewer sound like one of those who is still up set about Atlantis being canceled (which was a good thing since the writers obviously forgot how to write well for that show)and is now trying to nit pick.
The way I see it, and at the risk of drawing a comparrison to BSG (cause I know how much people love to do that, ...
I'm sure once the ship is stabilized(it is tens of thousands years old) I'm sure they are going to go into the meat of the story like enemies and such but this is very much a necessary component. It's missing some sort of serious enemy like the Cylons but it's still a good watch....
I'm waiting up till episode 10 before I may consider watching. Probably be end of season before I make up my mind.
I sorta understand what the reviewer is bitching aboot. But really, sounds more like a study groupie than a reviewer. By episode 5 or 6, still all this is happening, then I'd be bitchy too....
I loved this episode - it felt to me like the strongest episode I have seen in the Stargate franchise for a very long time. I like the way they seem to have a nice degree of continuity, it seems like this series will be more about the overarching story and how the characters deal with it, as was illustrated by the strong use of character ...
Why don't they use those stones to have McKay come to the ship. I'm sure he would have figured this out already. And yes the well endowed soldier chick was the highlight of the episode.
At least they didn't forget to breath... I really hated that song at the end of the previous episode.
And yes, Telford only seems able to complain. It seems like he'll cause more problems than he'll solve.
Its only been a few days since they got on the ship. It's in bad shape so priority is trying to get it running right. And you want them to what, start fighting aliens? It's a different pacing to old stargate show and there's nothing wrong with it till now. Drop the mentality of SG-1 and Atlantis and you might enjoy the show. I do agree with ...
I actually like that they're taking it slower and more intimate, in a sense... It's exactly how BSG started. I mean, did this reviewer trash 33 and Water? Those were very drawn out elements... but also very important in setting this up.
My complaint, and the reason I nearly turned off this episode, was in how trite some of the ...
Reason for the "talking head" segments: Apparently this was meant to be a single ep, but there was an over-run of 20 minutes with no way to cut the story down, hence it was expanded into a two-parter. One side benefit, all of these video diary segments are going to be used on character profile pages, when the official SGU website is updated, along with ones not actually used to help pad the show out.
@YenRugReBorn one could also assume that destiny is also most likely using the same basic engine technology that the ancient ship in the Atlantis episode the return was using when their hyper-drive broke when they evacuate the Pegasus galaxy. In that case the effects of time dilation would still apply. Though the ancient equivalent to warp-drive would be quite an interesting wrinkle. I just hope they explain it at some point its the one thing...
I am going to watch a couple more episodes before I make my descision about this show. If you remember, season 1 of SG1 started slow too because all of the characters needed to be developed and the story took a while to get going too. I just hope with SGU that they will stop using those stupid stones. Its getting old fast and they really have nothing to do with the main story at this point.

My only gripe with this show, so far at least, is the damn comm stones. These people aren't even really stranded since they have access to report to Earth anytime they want. Also, as at least one other person mentioned, why they hell aren't these stones being used to bring in smart people to help fix these problems.
I'm not expecting much from this program, so I"m enjoying what I see so far. I just think if you're planning on rebranding a franchise, the first key step is bringing in new writers, because all I see are the same old writers/directors tandems that made the previous two series stale. It's also why I'm skeptical as to the potential of the series and its characters, which is something Atlantis always had, but always...
