Thread: Square metres - land.

What sort of area is say 10,000 or 5000 squares metres in the real world? ie. what would be a good match to picture how it looks.

Go on Google Earth, and select the ruler at the top of the toolbar. Select path, change the value to metres, and draw a 100x100 square. Voila!...10,000sqm (71x71 gets you pretty much 5000sqm). Do it over your house, or somewhere else you know, and you can then visualise how big the area is.

10000 square metres is 1 hectare, or approx 2.5 acres. According to the government, you should be able to get 30 - 50 dwellings on it. 30 is your "nice" new build area kind of density, 50 is urban regeneration, social housing, townhouses etc.... An international regulation football pitch is 7140 square metres.

Are you including your house in that? I`ve got 625sqm (including house), and it`s a pretty paltry bit of land...

Measuring up our neighbours (expesive 90s new builds), their plots are around 25x10 - 250 square metres. That's smaller than the plots most terraces are built on!

That's smaller than my bathroom. And it's not a huge bathroom, either. Just nice and big, with holes in the floor and spiders.
