Many people here are saying they foresaw the twist not so long after
the movie began. If youre one of them, answer my questions please.
Do you remember the scene where Mido goes into a shop? A woman in the shop
tells her what happened to Daesus daughter. She says Daesus daughter was
adopted to Denmark, shows Mido her address and phone ...
I always had the feeling that she was his daughter.
When they had sex, I thought... "maybe I was wrong, that just isn't right".
When I saw the whole brother, sister thing... it was obvious.
It was hard to feel suprised at the end.
I guessed what would happen at the end pretty soon into the film, i can't name the scene but i think the being locked up, not knowing his daughter, then getting with this random totally out of coincidence kinda makes you think that could be the twist. I enjoyed the film, i had no idea what it was about and i'd never even heard about it before i watched it, nobody told me there was a twist, it was...
People i dare if anyone SAW the AMAZING TWIST PEOPLE just admit it this movie Was better than ALLLOT ALLOT ALLOT of American movies or the usual crap they produce story with a great TWIST great Artistic vision loved just admit it Korean's are just amaznig.
I can't believe this thread has been open for a month and no one can point out the exact scene where it becomes clear Mido is somehow related to Daesu; it's so obvious. It's the scene where he walks into the restaurant and she begins serving him octopi and they both remark on how familiar they look to each other. Those aren't just throwaway lines; it's a little something called foreshadowing. ...
I wouldn't say that it was miles away, but what tipped me off was when Woo-Jin mentioned that "she's already falling in love with him" I figured she was a pawn and not an accomplice. Their relationship was already kinda creepy even before that. But it was the flashback brother/sister thing that then made me figure that she was his daughter, even if I wasn't 100% sure, the ultimate reveal didn't ...
i wrote a big long thing about it in my forum "The Twist" which a whole zero people have responded to. But i just wanted to add that it seems strange to say there's only 1 twist? I can imagine predicting say the incest (on a remote feeling) but not that the revenge was for his sister who killed herself because she was preganant, that he cut off his tongue, and the last scene of him crying and ...
"It's the scene where he walks into the restaurant and she begins serving him octopi and they both remark on how familiar they look to each other."
You're wrong. You dont get enough clues which would lead you to the twist from that scene. This is what happens in the restaurant.
In the sushi restaurant, Mido says "You look familiar, have we met before?", and then Daesu says, " "Find the ...
The scene after they have sex, where Oh Dae-Su is brushing Mi-Do's hair is when I knew she was his daughter. Both my parents used to brush my hair when I was a kid, and seeing how tender he was with her made me shiver. I instantly knew and told my male friend, who thought I was crazy. Since then, I've shown in to both men and women, and what I've found is that the chicks who've seen Oldboy ...
Personally I think the people that say they saw the twist coming are full of *beep*
You probably just read it somewhere and try to flatter yourself
And to the post above
Oh Daesu doesn't even know who his daughter is because of
A) Memory altered
B) She was like 3 before he got imprisoned so even if he did remember he couldn't know what she looked like right now
So the manner he...
Well I have only seen it once, and I originally wrote Sweden in my post, but when I checked with the OP and they said Denmark, I assumed I was wrong (apparently wrongly). Sorry.
You do see the wife in the 1st photo (with the baby), but don't forget she was murdered in the 1st year of Dae-su's imprisonment. Anyway, I'm just throwing that idea in for people who "saw the twist coming" to consider :) Having said that, I believe Dae-su to be Mido's father. I'm just arguing that the evidence isn't conclusive, and it's Dae-su's own fear that convinces him.
Umm... no. I never even knew Oldboy had a twist, and I knew next to nothing about the movie. I just heard that it was an amazing film and that I should check it out, so I did. Pretty simple. I thought the same exact thing in the sushi restaurant scene. The second she said, "You look familiar," I thought, "That must be his daughter." Of course, I had no idea their relationship would become sexual. Some people...
Pjhllnd, But he can also see (I think) his wife in that family album ;-) GoddamUnvoicedAbbot, Best points about movies relying in just a twist… I also enjoyed Oldboy and not specially because of the twist. Drastic83, Ok. Nice "twist" of my argument ;-) Just because they have both changed so much in 15 years, if they look familiar to each other, they could, (must?) be relatives…?? Mmmmh. I think Dae Su sais...
To retort, it should go without saying, everyone has their own views/opinions. It was not my intent to insult you and do not take it personally. In case you didn't notice, we're talking about the twist here. If you guessed it was his daughter early on thats not what we're talking about. If you saw the twist coming, something is seriously wrong with you. How you could have forseen Woo-Jin had taken in Oh Dae Su's daughter,...

But i wouldn´t trust any "prediction" based in such "loose" terms. Well, obviously any prediction of this sort HAS to be loose; nobody SCREAMS in the movie that Mi-Do is Dae-Su's daughter. However, this is the kind of movie when you watch it again after knowing the twist you see certain scenes that were put in for foreshadowing's sake, little "hints." I noticed the hints, though...
I don't have a daughter or sister so... Mind you, I thought that the girl was going to turn out to be his daughter BEFORE they started having sex with each other. I disagree that there is "ratioally no way to see this" coming. There are several hints throughout the film. In all honesty, I thought it was fairly obvious, from the very first time they meet and she feels like she has seen him before. You don't need to...
Honest truth--my mother saw it coming. She has a bad habit of seeing these things. Didn't know there was a twist, is a preacher in her 60s so is not going to hear about films like Oldboy from anyone but me. But she called it. Out loud.
