Thread: Speedometer/Tach Fluctuation - While NOT Moving

I have another question... My project car has not been started in well over 10 years. I connected a power source to battery (trickle charger), then turned key on to see how much gas there was in tank (did not try to start car). The speedometer and tachometer started going up and down. The speedometer went to over 90 mph. Also, there was a ticking/elecrical sound from the frst injector. ...

First guess, it is being caused by the trickle charger... get a fresh battery and see if the same problem persists...

That was the problem....THANKS. I installed a new battery. After I drained old gas, I tried to start it tonight. It will not start, it turns over, but does not start. I guess this is my next issue. James

Standard troubleshooting: does the tach bounce when you start it (speed/ref sensors/DME), do you have fuel pressure (check the rail...even if its just seeing if you have ANY at all by pushing in on the valve to release some carefully), and do you have spark?

That was the problem....THANKS. I installed a new battery. After I drained old gas, I tried to start it tonight. It will not start, it turns over, but does not start. I guess this is my next issue. James
