Thread: Sore testicle after general anasthetic?

Started 1 year ago by redlorry
This is a slightly embarrassing question (and I should say it is not about me, as I am female, lol) but my OH had surgery on his stomach yesterday under a general anasthetic. He is ok, apart from feeling tired and bruised, but he noticed a dull ache in one of his testicles afterwards, and now it has become swollen. Have any men experienced this, or is it known to be a common ...

I'd turn off the computer before you drive him back to the hospital. No sense in wasting power like.

I suspect it has more to do with what happened during the surgery. Phone the hospital in the morning and ask to speak to the consultant who did the surgery.

No. Don't want to seem callous, but could you phone NHS Direct (O845 4647) and ask them, then let us know what they say. Obviously, if OH needs whipping to your nearest casualty, I can wait until tomorrow

I agree Stress Monkey, thinking about it, it's possibly not wise just to casually leave it til morning if it could be serious.

I've got a sneaky feeling they've knocked or irritated a bit of 'wiring' to the testicles from the stomach during the surgery. Either that or he deeply offended someone before the surgery and they took the opportunity to nut him in the knackers while he was out.

Thanks for your responses, I phoned NHS Direct and was asked lots of questions by the call handler who tried to put me through to a nurse, but they are currently all on calls. They are going to phone me back when someone becomes available. OH has gone to bed, as it is not so painful that he can't sleep, but I'm staying up until NHS Direct call back. Thanks for your quick ...

Let us know how it goes, how he is. Good luck redlorry.

Thanks redlorry. Sorry if I seem more interested in the medical side, I do really wish your OH the best and hope all is soon well

an acute swollen testicle, especially painful, should ALWAYS be seen to, to exclude the possibility of torsion (worse case scenario). It could also be infection/inflammation, in which case he needs antibiotic therapy. it's unlikely to be related to general anaesthetic. Could possibly be related to the surgery depending on what procedure it was that he had. But could be coincidental. In any case i would suggest that he should go to...

I'm probably wrong but perhaps they damaged a nerve somewhere, leading to the nether regions? Don't know.. I hope NHS Direct give some...
