Thread: Sony TC-530 advice please.

As mentioned elsewhere, I've been given a fully functional Sony TC-530. While the unit was well cared for, it needs maintaining. I have the Service Manual and excellent instructions for servicing Sony players. I've a request for the User Manual posted in the relevant forum section. I think you should be using 99% IPA if you can get it. I wasn't sure what grease to use but I've been using Castrol LM which is a general purpose lithium grease, although it was designed for wheel bearings over a wide temperature range. Regards, Peter

Thanks for the advice, Peter. I completed my maintenance, and the unit is functioning like a brand-new one. All of the squeals and intermittent problems have completely disappeared. The internal rubber looked new so I just used distilled water to clean it. The pinch roller is still a bit supple though slightly oxidized. I'll probably get some rubber restorer for it eventually, but ...

Thanks for the advice, Peter. I completed my maintenance, and the unit is functioning like a brand-new one. All of the squeals and intermittent problems have completely disappeared.
