Thread: Song with bowed guitar work and solo looking for advice
Started 2 years, 8 months ago by Comfortably_Numb
I'm working on a new song, and I'm curious as to whether or not other people feel the solo fits when it comes in. I didn't include a whole solo in this version, just the very beginning of it, but you'll get the idea of how I'm playing the solo right off the bat. Do you feel it fits the mood of the rest of the song? Any comments (pertaining to the question or just the song in general) will be ...
I think some of the phrasing sounds awkward, particularly the end of the lick that starts at 2:00 and ends at 2:06. But for the most part it matches the mood perfectly.

Thanks a lot for commenting man. I'll have to post a more complete solo when I have the whole song ...
Would anyone else like to give me their opinion? I'd love to hear what someone else has to say. Even if you flat out hate it, please tell me, and if possible, what you didn't like about it.

It's a Les Paul electric, with a bunch of distortion, reverb and delay. I use a cello bow to bow the strings (at least I think it's a cello bow, it could be a violin ...
I didn't like how the guitar comes in. And I think the sacel you're using is a bit odd sounding in the context of the rest of the song. I dunno, I just think it didn't suit. It needed to be smoother, more mellow, and sorta 'wooshier'. More slow bends, legato, etc. Meh
Thank you both for your comments, that's actually a very, very good suggestion. I'm using just the major scale, and I wanted something that sounded a bit more desperate; I don't know why I didn't just think to change the scale. I'll post a revised version when I change that.
That song was pretty cool, i liked the keyboards.
Your vibrato is a little bit to fast, and you have a little bit too much gain.

Nice song. The solo wasn't all that brilliant, to be honest. I really like the 'feel' of it, though. And the tone was awful, but that's a whole different issue. It comes in too siddenly. It needs more buildup. Another idea....on the full length version, you should keep doing the kind of thing you're doing with it here, with a nice, quiet, simple solo/lead guitar melodies. Then, build up the song, keep building it up,...
Don't take too great of offense to what Atman or Aria will say. They're a couple classical musicians and like to mess with people on here. Although Atman does make a point about the guitars construction not suiting with a bow... But whatever...it's for an effect.
