Well I bought a Smith and Wesson Sigma SW40V today at Academy Sport & Outdoor.
I took it straight to the range (I didn't even clean it ops: - shame on me)
Well it shot well, my only complaint is a very hard trigger pull.
Absolutely not one problem - I only had 50 shells with me (bought with the gun).
First .40 I've owned, does anyone know the difference between a .45 & a ....
got to shoot the 709 some more yesterday. I now have somewhere around 350 - 400 rounds through the gun.
got through a box of PMC 115gr just fine, along with a box of Federal...no extraction issues w/either, and only one failure to feed (with the Federal ammo).
I'm pretty much convinced that my problem was just the Winchester white-box ammo...starting to trust the gun now. another 100-...
Chances are the feedramp needs to be polished or the barrel throated.
For what it is worth, many GI type 1911s will work with hollowpoints if you alternate them in the mag with hardball. I did that for years with a mil spec 1911.
Remember that if you decide to just load the magazine with FMJ, as I would, you can still put a hollowpoint in the pipe first. You'll want to make sure they hit to the same point of aim, of course.
My Springfield Mil-Spec sees nothing but FMJ ball ammo, and nothing in the woods has a problem with that!
My Colt reliably feeds HP and SWC and my Kimber feeds HPs very well and sees a steady ...
My Kmbers eat anything I feed them. I wouldn't know what to do to make them jam....
While I love 1911s with a passion, they are second to my other love, Ruger revolvers. Get yourself a good 4-6" .357Mag at minimum. A 45LC, 44Mag or 41Mag would do the job nicely. I prefer my 41.

I have the 2" payed 175.00 new good shooter ...
glock 23c, terrible ergonomics terrible weight and balance, laser sight in
the rod blinks constantly, mag release had to be replaced, i still cannot
believe i let my brother talk me into buying one! He managed to convince me
i didn't like the grip angle because i was so use to a 1911, well i fired

comfortable in my hand. Oh did i ...

I just picked it up NIB for $450.00 with holster and extra's.I took it out and it seems very acurate, and was just wondering if a good deal?
I have a ss super blk hawk 7.5'and a new marlin 1894 both in 44 mag.
Any comments on best common loads for all three? Is there a Universal ammo for all three?
Thanks for any advise
You can push the SRH and SBH pretty hard and they won't budge, the Marlin
would blow at Ruger levels. If you stick to factory levels, you won't have
any trouble with the Marlin and the Rugers will give you lifetimes of
service.
I will try your idea with the empty cases this evening and let you know. Thanks. Been real busy at work and hunting or the thing would have been at S&W by now.
Will do, I like the 9mm for target so have a lot of ammo and always will. Not my #1 choice for self defense but in a pinch I'd rather have the velocity of the 9mm over the .380. Same size bullet, almost the same size package but higher velocity means better (or worse for the BG) temporary cavity. Plus the Keltec holds more in the mag and from what I've herd its more accurate.
If I remember correctly there are quite a few reviews on Midway USA and mostly good. It may not hold up well to heavy loads. The Millet red dots at less than half as much $$$ had the same reviews as far as quality and customer satisfaction. May want to check them out.
Friends, it just makes sense that a flat top .357 or flat top .44 mag can handle any load developed for them. The same goes for the Lipsey's .44s. I would probably not hot rod the NV in .357 although it could handle it and WOULD NOT hot rot a NV .45 Colt, period.
The only problem with a laser sight is that the added bulk takes away from everything that makes the pistol attractive for self defense. As far as I'm aware, Crimson Trace is the only one that makes a grip type sight for the weapon. Unfortunately, it is almost as expensive as the pistol itself.
I got the 4" Redhawk. Dang, it's gorgeous! It's one hunk of metal, for shure. Will take it out and shoot it this weekend after I load up some ammo for it.
