Thread: Sleeping positions

Started 1 month, 3 weeks ago by nadhezda
I am having a really hard time finding a way to sleep comfortably. I am a tummy sleeper. Is it still safe to sleep on my tummy?? My hips hurt too much when I try to stay on my left or right side! Also I am getting terrible pains in my abdomen. Sometimes sharp, sometimes dull but intense. Last night they lasted for quite a while and it tends to be worse when I am sitting as opposed to ...

if your hips hurt from lying on your side, you can try putting a pillow between your knees to make you top leg knee more even with your hips (does this make senses?)

You can also lay on your back still, though I'm not sure about stomach sleeping. I think at this point it's still safe, assuming it's comfortable for you. I know I can only partially get onto my stomach, if I try to lay full on it feels really weird. Otherwise a good body pillow (or 2) could help making side sleeping a little more comfortable. I don't know what I'd do without mine.

You are only 13 weeks. You can still sleep on your tummy. After 16 weeks though, no tummy sleeping and no lying flat on your back.

I forgot to add that i'm normally a side sleeper anyway. But, I normally sleep on my right side, not the left. I had to train myself to sleep on my left side and I try to stay on my left as much as possible. There are curved pregnancy pillows (they kind of look like a horseshoe) could help you from rolling over on your stomach. You have about 3 weeks left to sleep on your stomach/back. ...

xois - No prob. As jader said, no lying flat on your back. I should have made that distinction. I've read (and my doctor has confirmed) that you can still sleep on your back after 16 weeks if your upper body is elevated. So, not FLAT on your back, kinda partially sitting. Also, although it is constantly stated that the left side is better to sleep on, you can sleep on your right. My hips hurt every night. So, I'm constantly switching from left to right to back to left to right to back. Personally, the pillow between my legs...

As long as it is comfortable for you and your body, you can sleep on your tummy as long as you want. At some point, it will become very uncomfortable. I was able to sleep on my tummy until 20 weeks. A lot of it will depend on your body size and shape. And the same with sleeping on...

I am 28 weeks and I still sleep on my belly sometimes...Dr. said it is fine...I also sleep on my right side...Dr. said it is fine...Only thing he said not to do is lie flat on your back. I am actually sleeping on the couch now on my back but propped up on 3 pillows because of my major hip and pelvic pain!
