Thread: Sky Modem MUST be plugged into master socket AT ALL TIMES

Started 1 month, 1 week ago by n17ken
Just finished a call to Sky regarding a problem with my BB since the exchange was upgraded. On 4th November I spent some time going over the probelm and explained that my connection had dropped by 2m since the 'Upgrade' I was promised a call back when a technician was available but..... you can guess the rest. I have again spoken to sky and have now been told that ...

As you say using the master socket is good for determining if it's a wiring issue in the home but beyond that it's SKY and maybe BT who have to address performance issues. I an inclined to believe it's the usual poor training and indifferent CS rep any organisation with lax oversight or planning can end up with.

Although its possible that your wiring is at fault, its highly unlikely that it would cause a loss of 2meg in a short time if you didn't change anything, the fact that you mention there was an "upgrade" on your exchange would seem to indicate that its an external telecoms factor, i.e. nothing you did. Its SOP for ISP's to say plug it into the master socket, but that doesn't ...

The modem has been in the same place since I installed it over two years ago. There is only one telephone and the Sky+ box. Filters are in place as required. To be told that I can get no further help is in my opinion appauling. Since the so called 'Upgrade' my service has deteriorated significantly and Sky will not help.... according to the guy I spoke to tonight....

Hi, thanks for your reply. I've had an I plate since they came out. Made no difference at the time but it's still there. Checked out SamKnows and up to 7m is suggested. That's what I was getting until the upgrade recently. I'm not alone in the drop in speed since the upgrades have been going on. It's definatly an outside factor as nothing has changed and I have ...

Ok, I've checked the modes stats and here they are... ADSL Link Downstream Upstream Connection Speed 5017 kbps 798 kbps Line Attenuation 47.5 db 27.0 db Noise Margin 7.2 db 14.1 db So based on these readings I should be reasonably able to get 7m.... which is exactly what I 'WAS' getting. ...

just tell them that it is plugged into the master socket. they have no way of telling if it actually is or not. it'll make them feel like they are doing it correctly and you can progress with the troubleshooting with them

I moved home and when I finally got Sky Broadband on my line again from my old home I noticed that through this DLM that it reduced my speed to 9.2 meg download. Today it took me a 40 minute call get to the right person on Customer Solutions. he had a look at my speed noticed that it wasn't fast enough did another check on my line and it finally rested at 15.7 meg download ...

I totally agree with you on the custom support side of things. But to be fair Sky are not alone in shabby support. Promises of returned calls being the usual first sign of whats to come. What really pisses me off is that 'They' are doing me a favour by 'Upgrading' my exchange to provide a better service.... Where! When! I have spend considerable time and ...

Have just spoken to Sky this morning and this time the guy on the end of the phone was very helpful. I explained what had gone on already and how unhappy I was with the general tone of the last phone call. So much so that I ended the call before I ended up having an argument. This time however he got onto the system and started to adjust the speeds and managed to get ...

My service provider both voice and BB is sky... What dose worry me is that if you request a service vist and no fault is found you will be billed a hefty charge. I think I'll let things ride for a while and see if there is any change , eith good or bad. My only option then is to change service provider.... all my services. I doubt I'd go with BT as I feel they never quite hit the spot regarding prices. In the days when the telecoms...

BH2 i right, if your issue is with the b/band and the phone line is working o.k.(i.e no noise) then your only call should be to the ISP. they...
