Thread: Silvertone 1331 speaker selection

Started 3 months, 1 week ago by THX421
Hello everyone- I have been using a Silvertone 1331 for recording for years and it has always sounded great. I tried to use it on my last song and it was "ringing" on certain notes. The speaker is finally blown. Does anyone have any suggestions for a mid 50's 8 watt tube combo speaker? I am thinking Weber since they have the biggest selection, but it is too big! I have no idea which one to...

You're right. As I re-read the posting, it's pretty obvious that's what he meant. I do know some of those early amps have minimal depth, so it is a good idea to verify dimensions before purchase.

TA Weber got back with me and suggested the Alnico Classic series with a smooth cone. I bought it yesterday. It was cheaper than I expected ($45) not too shabby Hopefully I will use it for recording again soon. Thanks!

I don't see the "Classic" series listed on the website. I've seen one in an amp on an eBay auction, and you've ordered one - so they're out there.. Am I missing something on the Weber website ? How do the "classics" differ from the "signature"?
