Thread: Sesame Street is 40!

Started 1 month, 2 weeks ago by WolfySara
Today was Sesame Street's 40th birthday! I caught part of the show with Jackson and they had pretty much a typical show, except cameos from Michele Obama and Kermit the Frog. Gah, I love this show. When my kids start losing interest, I might keep recording it and watching it after they go to bed. Except the Elmo part of it. Barf! Did anyone else watch the 'special'? What are ...

I am sure I have said this before, but my kids have never seen Sesame Street. We didn't watch it. I remember watching it when I was little from time to time. I was always afraid I would look like Big Bird when I grew up because he was so tall and I was too.

Gosh, Andrew and I watched the morning Sesame Street, and that was not the special episode. My special memories: mostly Ernie & Bert stories--I loved them the most as a kid. I remember the one where they go in the Egyptian pyramids and the statue keeps doing things like dancing and only Ernie sees him do it, so Bert doesn't believe him, and then at the end the statue taps Bert on the head. It ...

Aw. I missed it. I have no kids YET, but I can't wait to watch this with them. My sister and I loved it. I like Oscar's can. It just looked so cool to go into. I don't like Elmo. He gets on my nerves. I don't like Telly either. I like the Cookie Monster the best.LOL I also like Alice, she's a cutie!

Sarah, I TOTALLY LOVE "Three of these things..." AND "1, 2, 3, 4, 5..."!! SO much. I wish they still used them! I love Sesame Street. Unfortunately, I didn't get see today's special. Although Elmo annoys me, my son loves him so much that I overlook it. Cookie Monster is my favorite character.

We watched it and I recorded on the PVR so my DH can watch it. I love, love, LOVE Sesame Street! I always have. I've always had a thing for Grover but recently I've come to like Telly too. The melodrama is hysterical! I'm impressed that so many of the original characters (as in actors) are still on the show! So many of them have been on there since I started watching it 30+ years ago....
Actually Telly is more annoying because he is always wallowing in self-pity.
I literally laughed out loud at that! He IS so "Woe is me!" I can't imagine him being anyone's favorite character!

That's what makes him so funny! His moods swing like crazy and everything is a crisis. I love Telly! Maybe it's because I can relate to the mood swings. Oh my gosh... A debate about Muppets...

I forgot about nose bonking aliens!!! I bonk Sam's nose all the time. I loved so many things Jim Henson created. When he died, I actually cried, and I am really not the kind of person who cries about the death of a "famous" person. Does anyone remember the pies? A chef carrying a stack of pies, like FIVE. CHERRY. PIES. and they would wobble as he walked, and I'd get all anxious ...

LOL. That Telly! I just had my sister groaning because I mentioned his name. Talking about him is making me want to go to Youtube just to see a clip of him!

Oh, and I think Ernie is a jerk. He's mean and always picks on Bert. I don't care that Bert is a geek but come on! Ernie is always on his case!

Oh yeah, Misty! I remember the Ladybug Picnic! Also, "Six Socks dancing in the wash!" Oh, oh, oh, and what about, "New-ne-new-ne-new" -- the computer thing? I don't think he's ever on there anymore.
