Have you got more than 1 disk in this server, if so is the other one giving the same issues on smartd? I have never heard of Samsung disks causing those issues, but then again to be fair I would never use Samsung disks in a server. Give me 10 minutes and I will have a quick look if you like?. Yes, consider a RAID 1 option with 2 drives at least. It shouldn't cost much.

I think when he stated "Yes" he was agreeing to taking backups. I think he was also saying take the option of Raid1 over the other types of raid. It does not really matter anyways since RAID is not a backup solution.

Raid is a good operating environment but not a backup solution but if one hard drive fails at least you are not down
