Ive got just over 1,000 miles now on my shelby and 2nd gear is still making a grinding nosie while in that gear. Frist, Third, Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth are dead quite. As soo as you hit hit second tho sounds like a grinding of some sort.
My gf even noticed it and she isnt even a car person.
I heard it from day one when I first picked up car from dealership. I was told "maybe rust on the gears...
As explained to me by the ford tech down here, it is a normal rollover gear sound in 2nd gear. I was told that 2nd gear in these are beefier than before, which is contributing to the sound. It does sound like something is rubbing, but has not gotten any worse for me, and I now have 7k miles, and I also had it from the start.
Does it happen when your hand is NOT on the shifter? I know sometimes if you're driving the car with your hand on the shifter, you'll get rollover noise through the handle.
+1 on getting louder exhaust...lol
These cars "stock" sound like a Crown Vic.
For those wondering about exhaust, I had SLP's on my GT500 and they were great. I now have a KR and the exhaust note is similar but, the ...

I've had a little feedback, but nothing to be overly concerned about.
The only transmission I've considered to be "quiet" is a fresh BorgWarner World Class T5.
Every Tremec of every flavor I've ever heard is basically a box-o-rocks if it has ATF in it.
Put a Top Loader with some straight cut gears; then at least you KNOW it's supposed to make some noise

Yeah I just rolled my eyes and said sure.
I hear the noise even when my hand is off the shifter.
I have FRPP 5GT mufflers...
FRPP/KR Shifter won't help anything. It has the exact same construction/materials as the stock unit; it has simply been re-ratio'd to have a shorter throw.
Swapping to GM Synchromesh (or equivalent) will greatly quieten it down. Call Tremec, they'll say the same.
