My minime (he is nine and rather competitive) has been assigned a school project for his homework over the Christmas period.....without my influence he has chosen Lance Armstrong......now, when I was at school many years ago projects where a straight lift from text books, I dont want him to just print items from the Internet or copy from a book.
So...is there a correct / incorrect way of ...
Mark, get him to use the web plus books plus magazine articles. He should then read all his sources, plan his project, rewrite bits from all sources in his own words, add his pictures and include an index or contents page and a bibliography. Front covers may be designed and coloured by hand or with Publisher, word art etc. I always gave extra marks for additional stuff done by hand, especially ...
I really hate kids being given 'projects'! I've always felt they are (were, in my case) a cop out by teachers!
In fact, I am totally opposed to homework for primary school children. (Other than daily reading, of course).
BM
I think homework is outrageous. OUTRAGEOUS!
I remember being deeply offended by being handed homework, im mean lets be serious here, you go to school 9 to 3:30 every day, i think that is 'enough' learning, do not give me more work to do in 'my time'!
I think its discusting so teachers on here, cop on and let up on the kids, let them go out and play in their time please so long as they ...

We were rubbish at projects. Especially ones which involved making things. (The dreaded Viking ship which collapsed before it got to school. My hope then was that we could borrow or buy a good one for our second child to take in since we could not recycle in the family) The school displayed the best projects in the entrance so each morning we had to walk past these wonderful perfect examples with...

My "primary school evil" is charity projects and sponsored events for kids doing nearly nothing en masse.
The worst one ever was each and every child in the school being sent home a "Barnardo's" money box that they were basically told to fill with money raised however they wish and those who raised the most were acknowledged. Those who didn't bring any or much money in were asked why not. My ...
I thought homework was good at teaching kids time management, self motivation and initiative.
Anways, I had a similar project to do. I loved it as I could get creative instead of just doing a boring bit of writing. I chose my dad as he was a famous cricketer back in the day. I stuck an action picture of him in the middle of an A3 piece of paper then either cut out and stuck or wrote down my...

To a certain extent, it is, Gina, but even for a primary school child, it's important that there is a point to what they are being asked to do. Much of this type of homework is totally pointless and insulting to their intelligence. I heaved a great sigh of relief when our youngest left primary school! We did...

Cool...thankyou...a few mixed messages here...I was going to let him read the responses, but dont really want to resurrect the rebel he has inherited from me ...he can like all kids be stubborn enough at times without using swimclub to evidence why homework is 'outrageous' ! I firmly agree that home is for play and fun, that said, I am also believe he needs to know that nothing comes without effort...its that old Capt Webb theme of...
We hated "Love in Box". Filling a shoe box with discarded McDonalds toys to send to children in some war zone. Not very charitable I have to admit. We went along with it because everyone else did and the kids got caught up in it. But I did go to Woolies to buy extra Ladybird socks etc which might have been of value to the recipients. So glad we have left Primary behind. Three hours on the cookie decorating stall at the Christmas...
